odd... master hasn't come out of her room and it's already noon. maybe she was tired and decided to sleep in... that couldn't be, she has an important mission today, Kanao contemplated, mind haywires with all the worry.

"KANAO!!!" the black-haired girl flinched back as she heard a familiar voice call out. she turned around and caught sight of a distressed girl with black pigtails, her straight bangs evenly split towards both sides. her blue-tinted demon slayer uniform had a snowy-white apron with a lilac bow tied around her waist.

Aoi caught her breath before she continued, hands rested on her kneecaps.

"Kocho-sama is... is missing!" she said while catching her breath.

Kanao's pupils widened.

"w-what? but she doesn't usually leave without notifying anyone, did you check if Sumi, Naho or Kiyo have heard from her?" she desperately ran through all of the possibilities she could think of. Aoi shook her head slowly much to the matter's disappointment.

"could you notify Oyakata-sama? i have many patients to take care of since Kocho-sama isn't here." Kanao simply nodded and darted out of the mansion.

Kanao swiftly made her way to the main headquarters, partly thanks to her vigorous tsuguko training.

her sharp eyes quickly took notice of the short-haired figure with two shorter ones in the garden. the flower breath user immediately made her way towards the corp's leader, making sure her presence was known as to not startle the girls or Ubuyashiki.

"father, the insect pillar's tsuguko is here, roughly 4 meters away," one of his daughters said in a flat tone.

"oh, thank you for alerting me, Hinaki," he thanked before turning to the direction his daughters were gesturing him to with light tugs.

"what brings you here, Kanao?"

"sorry for coming in short notice and not alerting you in advance. the crows would have taken too long so i've arrived in person." she formally provided some context as fast as she could before starting on the situation at hand, "Maste-, no, Shinobu nee-san is missing. Aoi couldn't find her in her room and her haori and hairpin are still there."

Ubuyashiki's face turned disheartened.

"i see, thank you for reporting this matter, Kanao, we will do everything in our-"

"CAW!! CAW!! PILLARS ARE MISSING, ALL MANSIONS ARE EMPTY!!"

they all looked up at the front in shock. (Ubuyashiki could tell by the voice's direction)

the unthinkable had happened.

"Kanao, as you've already heard in advance to the others, the search was unsuccessful. unfortunately, Shinobu is no longer with us, neither are the other hashiras. i'm assuming you know what's about to happen, aren't you?" Ubuyashiki said with a half-solemn, half-comforting voice.
