Cass instructed as Nevada trotted around the ring contently on Jason. "That's not two-point Nevada! You know this! That's half seat." Cass criticized. Nevada straightened out her back more because obviously it wasn't "two-pointy" enough for Cass. Nevada had been riding on almost every single Friday in a group lesson for 9 years. She usually always rides Jason, but sometimes she'll hop on others such as Fenway, Numbers, or Hayden. For some reason she prefers boys over girls. In fact, the only mare who she regularly rides is Numbers. She lost concentration and was thinking of when she first started riding here at Bailey Farms.
"Nevada!" Cass startled her, "Are you listening? I asked you to canter at C and you just trotted right past it! All the other students cantered, but you didn't. What's up with you?"
Nevada replied, "I'm sorry, I-"
"No," Cass cut her off. She was annoyed, and it would be a fatal decision to go against Cass while she was annoyed. "Just canter at A, Nevada... And try to catch up with the group."
Nevada kept her mouth shut. There was nothing to say anyways, and nothing to do but canter.
After the lesson she hoped off, untacked, threw a cooler on Jason, and put him back in his stall. On her way out Cass called to her, "Hey! Nevada! Did you hear about the new horse?"
"What new horse?" Nevada questioned.
"The new horse! His name is Tornado I think, and he is a chestnut. I can't wait for him to come in! I hope he's a good school horse!"
"Ya, I'm gonna buy him if he's good." Sarah smirked as she passed them. Sarah also rides every Friday, but she started a few years after Nevada. She always talks bigger than she actually is and has a smart mouth most of the time. Nevada has never had any big issues with Sarah and was hoping never to.
"Oh really?" Cass asked, almost laughing.
'Oh yes! You both know my daddy's rich and he'll do anything for me." Sarah stuck up her nose and chuckled a snooty laugh as she walked off.
"If your daddy's so rich than why don't you buy your own barn..." Nevada mumbled quietly under her breath when Sarah became too faraway to hear.
"Well, anyways," Cass continued, " He's gonna be new and he comes in next Thursday."
"How exciting," Nevada smiled. Just then she heard the low beep of a car from outside.
"That's mum," She waved bye to Cass. "I'll see you next week."
Cass waved as Nevada jogged off to the black Toyota parked outside. She hopped in the car and sat next to her brother, "Hey mom,"
"What about me?" Shawn complained and Nevada hushed him.
"Hi honey," Her mother smiled, "How was the lesson?"
"Good, same as usual." Nevada responded quietly.
"Tell her about tomorrow!" Shawn smiled mischievously.
"Oh, right!" Their mother explained, "Tomorrow morning I'll be out so I need you to wake up early and walk your brother to his soccer try outs at 9:00."
"What? Mom, why me? He can walk his self, he's almost in middle school!" Nevada complained and Shawn stuck his tongue out at her.
"Not at 9:00 in the morning he won't. Plus, he needs someone to wake him up." Her mother persisted.
