Serenity's PoV
After breakfast, we both headed outside where a royal carriage was waiting for us. It was the same one that I crashed into but I didn't exactly have time to truly admire it last time.
It was gorgeous. The main frame was black but what defined it was the contrasting gold artwork created on the outside. It looked like a royal carriage. I wanted to run my hand over the patterns but refrained from looking like a complete idiot. Whoever made this is an amazing artist.
"I'll be sure to let Gabriel Rodriguez know that you admire his artwork." I blushed embarrassingly. I must have said that out loud by accident.
Whoops.
Anyway, he places a hand on my lower back and guides me to the side of the carriage where one of the palace staff had opened the door. Being the gentleman he is, he holds my hand, helping me into the carriage and then getting in straight after. We sit opposite each other.
Inside the carriage was very velvety, if that's even a word. It had a regal red colour over the seats with the walls being the same black colour as the outside. Having all this available was something that would take time adjusting to. It was completely different to what I was used to.
"Will you now tell me where we are going?" He chuckles, clearly amused by my question.
"You'll find out when we get there. It's not that far, after all, it's only a fifteen-minute journey. I think you can wait that long." He smirks at me and I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his attitude.
Ugh, this is going to be the longest fifteen minutes of my life.
"I can tell you want to know so bad but trust me when I say that the wait will be worthwhile. You'll love the surprise I've got in store for you." I smiled at him hoping that he can keep to his word. The last thing I want is to trust him and then I end up getting thrown back on the streets. It's something I couldn't physically manage.
I felt my heart in my throat. I was anxious because I knew this could go either way.
"Dove, I can see the worry etched onto your face. Don't fret, I promise that you'll like it. I've just met you so I'm never letting you go." He reassures me holding my hands in my lap. I watch as his fingers stroked my knuckles and I couldn't help but admire the way he could calm me down in a single minute.
"Can you promise me one thing though?" I ask looking straight into his eyes. He returned my gaze with concern.
"Anything," He said.
"If something was to go wrong, can you please not throw me back on the street? I know I'm asking for a lot but I..." he pressed a single finger to my lips to quieten me and I didn't retaliate. He looked like he wanted to speak so I let him without hesitation.
"I would never let you back on the streets. No one in my kingdom should ever have to go without basic shelter which is why I'm showing you this." The carriage door opened.
I didn't even realise that we had arrived or that the carriage had even stopped until just now. I must have been so indulged in conversation that I must have been distracted. I mean Ricardo is the type that could make you lose track of anything around you and only focus on him. I'm glad he's here, with me.
He climbs out of the carriage and offers me a hand which I gratefully took. It was so endearing to have someone take care of me like I was special.
I looked around and gasped, holding my hand to my mouth. Tears fell on my face like a tsunami, sudden and heavy.
I was in my hometown.
What stood out was a giant building that said 'Serene Care Protection' in large font at the top.
