A Party

“Have you got color in your cheeks?”

Laughing, she allowed her hair to fall into her face.

It was so beautiful.  She was so beautiful.

The shadows and shouts of the partygoers and the thrum of the bass was drowned out as I looked into her eyes.

“Do you ever get that feeling you can’t shift; it sticks around like something’s in your teeth.”

Keeping her head down, she brushed the hair behind her ear.  Her rosy cheeks darkened, only the slightest shade.

Her efforts proved fruitless, and I traced my finger up her cheekbone and behind her ear, pushing the lock with it.

“Are there some aces up your sleeve?”

She laughed, a slow, slightly uncomfortable laugh; she was unsure of what was happening.  She was testing the waters.

I loved her laugh.  I had loved it for months; I’ll love it forever.

“Have you no idea that you’re in deep?”

I smiled back at her and her eyes flashed.

“I dreamt about you nearly every night this week.”

I placed my hand lightly on her knee.  When she smiled nervously, I traced my fingers up her thigh.

“How many secrets can you keep?”

In a whisper, she told me that she loves this song.  Raising my eyebrows, I ask if that’s a ploy to get me to dance.

She laughs.

I love her laugh.

“Because there’s this tune I found that makes me think of you somehow.”

It seemed like she had been telling the truth because opened her small, shy mouth to sing along.  Before she even took a breath, I knew she was a lovely singer.

“And I play it on repeat.”

She barely got to sing the first word as some kid knocked his shoulder into us as he ran to some friend.

I caught her, keeping her from falling off the couch.

I then realized where my hands were.

“Until I fall asleep, spilling drinks on my settee.”

I had barely opened my mouth when she leaned in and wrapped her arms around my neck.  She was asking for permission.

I couldn’t help but chuckle.  She was such a dork-

Her soft lips met my slightly open mouth.

“Do I wanna know?”

She tasted like peppermint chapstick, refreshing and bright.

Her flavor and her feeling washed all over me as she slid closer.

“if this feeling flows both ways?”

I felt her tense, only barely as I pulled away for a fraction of a fraction of a second.

She giggled as I placed a slow kiss on her nose.

I love her laugh.

“I’m sad to see you go, was sorta hoping that you’d stay.”

Whispering my name, she informed me that she was ‘sorta hoping I’d stay.’

I nodded slightly as our lips met again.

“Baby we both know.”

I felt her smile as she gently slid her tongue over and between my lips.

“That the nights were mainly made for saying things we can’t say tomorrow day.”

She whispered into my ear.  An offer.  A promise.

“Crawlin’ back to you.”

My eyes went from her pointed chin to her smiling lips to her blushed cheeks to her sparkling eyes.

I whispered my answer into her ear.

“So have you got the guts?”

She chuckled.

God, I love her laugh.
