"So you're telling me you chose to study abroad in Edinburgh just for the aesthetic?" your roommate, Ophelia, asked.

"Precisely," you replied with a smile. "And because I love Harry Potter, I just get magical vibes from this country!" you laughed.

Ophelia looked at you in disbelief before laughing with you. "No, I'm not 100% serious. It was definitely part of my decision, though. The scenery is beautiful, the culture seems amazing, the city itself is so easy to fall in love with, and I honestly fuck with the gloomy weather. Constantly feeling like I should be wrapped up in a blanket with a mug of tea and a good book isn't something you can find year round in New York." you explained.

"Alright, well I guess that's a better reason for traveling all this way. But I literally don't see any books amongst your stuff. How are you supposed to achieve the "feeling" you're on about?" Ophelia asked, peering around at the valuables you brought along for the semester.

"I wanted to bring so many, but had to refrain and optimize suitcase space. I knew I would need layers over here, so I packed a lot clothes instead." you pulled open your closet, revealing the tons of pants and sweaters hanging up. "Don't you worry though, I plan on heading to a local bookstore today. I'll really get to soak up the Edinburgh-dark academia aesthetic. You wanna join?"

"I'd love to, but I can't. I have to head to my theater class now, then a study group with some people from another one of my classes." she said as she gathered her books, throwing them into her bag.

"Alright, no worries! We'll go together another day. I'll scope out the closest bookstore, see how it is. We on for dinner later?" you ask.

She nodded and left shortly after, leaving you to get ready to head out too.

You bundled up in your comfiest sweater and jeans, threw a raincoat in your bag (just in case), and slung your tote bag onto your shoulder before leaving the apartment.

You walked down the sidewalk, taking in the environment and soaking up the opportunity to people watch. Couples sitting across from each other in coffeeshops, local buskers making some money for the day, the drunken yells from one of the city's many pubs--so similar, yet so different from the life you were used to back home.

You finally reached the bookstore, the walk honestly shorter than you would have liked. However, it was great knowing there was a store so close to your temporary home that could always meet your reading needs. As you walked in, an employee greeted you, letting you know that they'd be available to answer any and all questions you may have.

You headed towards the closest bookshelf, knowing you had to scan all of them to make sure you didn't miss any good finds.

Whenever you enter a bookstore, you immediately get lost in your own little world. It's as if you're the main character of your own movie, and everyone else is just there as an extra in the background. You become enthralled with the stories you read about on the backs of the books, making you struggle to only buy a couple rather than a dozen.

You were currently stood in the "New Releases" aisle, reading the back of a book with beautiful cover art. It felt as though there were a pair of eyes on you, but you chalked that up to the "main character" moments that flood your head in bookstores. However, when you looked up to place the book back, you met eyes with someone standing on the other side of the shelf.

You tried to smize at them (smile with your eyes) before picking up another book, acting interested in the new story as if you didn't just have prolonged eye contact with a stranger. But something about the stranger drew you back in. You slowly lifted your head to peak another look. Thankfully, he too had placed his nose in a book, giving you the chance to catch an additional glimpse.
