They arrived at the party and saw at least 50 people already there. They spotted Faye and Leo through the crowd, both with a red cup in their hands. Ivy waved at them and they came walking over. Ivy gave Faye a questioning look but Faye shook her head. Ivy didn't know if that meant she hadn't said anything yet or if she had, but didn't want to talk about it. "You guys want a drink," Leo asked. Ivy nodded but Owen hesitated. Leo smiled, "Oh come on, it's the first day of summer, loosen up O." Owen looked to Faye who was already checking out the few people who were dancing. "Sure, why not," Owen shrugged. Leo left to get them drinks, while Ivy eyed Faye and Owen. "Hey, I'm going to go look at the soundtrack for tonight," Ivy announced and took off. Faye smiled at Owen, "you wanna go sit by the fire?" Owen nodded as his pulse began to pick up.
They chose a seat closer to the fire and Faye grabbed a stick for them both while Owen got the marshmallows. "What's a better combination than beer and smores," Faye asked. Owen passed a marshmallow to Faye and hummed, "I don't think you can beat strawberries and sour cream." Faye laughed and they both started roasting their marshmallows. "You know, I've been thinking," Faye started. Owen turned to look at her, the fire casting her in an orange glow, and making her red hair look golden. She didn't continue the sentence so he prodded, "Yeah, what are you thinking of?" She sighed and looked up at the trees and then smiled back at Owen, "If I tell you this, you can't tell another single living soul, ok?" Owen laughed but nodded. "I'm leaving at the end of summer. I'm going to go to school in London for the year." Owen's smile fell from his lips, as he imagined the next year without her. When he didn't say anything, concern crept over Faye, "Aren't you going to say anything?"
Smoke swirled into the sky and the music that was thumping in the back became distant to Owen's ears. He was about to ask why but realized he didn't have to. He saw how excited Faye was about this and plastered back on his smile, "I'm so excited for you! I'm sure you'll have a great time." Relief washed over Faye and she returned her attention to her marshmallow, which was sliding off her stick. Owen laughed and she shrugged, "I wasn't that hungry anyways. Come on, let's go dance." She stood up at once and grabbed Owen's hand. He hesitated but stood with her as she led him to the music.
