The wind howled in her ears, and she could barely see through the night. The sounds of Kricketunes chirping and a distant Murkrow is enough to send shivers down her spine.
This is Raven, barely nine years old, and she is currently lost in the woods.

You may be wondering "how in the world has she gotten herself lost?" And may immediately point it to bad parenting.
This is not the case of course, a parade for the celebration of a new gym was the bait that drew her in.
She snuck out, because her persistent cries to her parents did not make them obey.

And here she was, now on the verge of crying, because she wanted to go to a celebration.
She leaned against a tree, and let her tears fall. The hole in her chest made its way onto her throat, and started grabbing it. It hurt, and so she started sobbing.
She hated being alone, and also hated how she was late to the parade, if it was even going on anymore.
Her sobs were quiet, but noticable. She heard a bush rustle, and tensed up. She quickly stood up, and took a step back.

She then heard a growl, and ran.

The creature jumped out of the bushes and onto a pile of twigs, not caring that the sound made their presence known for sure.

The mixture of wet and dry leaves slapped her face, and puddles of mud made her running slow. She inhaled sharply, and the cold air did not feel good in her throat.

Her cheap, worn down shoes barely did anything to protect her feet against the ground. The worn down soles have almost been torn off.

She looked back, slowing her down significantly, but finally saw what was chasing her.
The infamous wild Mightyena, known to attack travellers on the regular, and always left some sort on nasty scar on every encounter. Her parents have always told her to do the obvious: run away.
The Mightyena growled before pouncing onto Raven, pinning her down with their paws against her shoulders.
She screamed. She couldn't do anything, the pokemon was too strong...
They growled more, the drool from their mouth started to fall on her face. It didn't smell good, she thought. Their fur was matted with twigs and leaves, and their left arm was damaged.
The pokemon snarled, and opened their jaw slowly, threatening to bite the human girl. She whimpered, and braced for impact.

Then she suddenly felt the weight off her shoulders, literally. She opened her eyes, to see a Tyrogue by her side.
"Ty-roo!" He yelled. The Mightyena landed on its feet, and snarled. It will refuse to lose its meal.
Tyrogue took a battle stance. He also refuses to lose this battle.
They both stood in silence, waiting for the other to make a move. Raven took the opportunity to run, her hands met the wet leaves, supported herself, and ran as fast as she could.

The Mightyena took full notice of this, and started running to the girl, the Tyrogue following shortly after.
She heard another growl from the Mightyena, and tried to ignore the burning sensation in her gut.

She heard a jump, and looked back in time to see the Tyrogue tackle the Mightyena again.
Was the Tyrogue... protecting her? She didn't recall any instances where she helped him.
Her mind didn't linger on the thought for too long, because in the distance was a light!

She gathered as much energy as she could, and ran with a burst, but then abruptly tripped on a twig.
She stumbled before she fell once again, but the Tyrogue picked her up, and carried her bridal style.
Raven gasped and put her arms around the his neck. She saw this on a movie once, so she didn't exactly know what to do other than that.

The light illuminating from the town was almost blinding, Raven had to sheild her eyes for a bit before realizing that this was not a town she was currently in, rather it was a city!
She looked back, and the Mightyena was nowhere to be found, she breathed a sigh of relief.

She eyed the Tyrogue "Hey, he's gone now" he didn't seem to realize this and checked behind him to make sure. Once he saw that she was right, he suddenly stopped, and dropped her.
"OW! What was that for?!" She complained. "Tyroo..." he simply said annoyed, and crossed his arms.

"Hey kids!" A man took notice of them. He quickly drove towards the duo.
"Where are your... where's your parents?" He has mistaken the Tyrogue for a human child, as they are not very common in this city.
Raven recognized the blue uniform. He was a police officer, they weren't very good at doing their job in her home town.

"At my house" Raven looked down, guilty for her actions. The officer kneeled down and put a hand on her shoulder. "Listen, I'm gonna have to ask you to be more specific, kid. Your parents are probably really worried right now" he said, attempting to level with her.
She sniffled, then explained the situation to him, and he simply nodded and stood up.
"So in the small town of Tonar aye?" He smiled a little, trying to soothe her "that's just a mile from here, I can take you there if you'd like!"
Raven hesitated, police weren't usually this nice. Most of the time they would just play on their cell phones and pathetically attempt to catch robbers, they never really cared for the townsfolk!
"I'd like that very much!" She smiled and nodded. He nodded back and motioned them towards the car.
Raven climbed in, her short legs barely able to reach the seat.
He pointed at the Tyrogue "is that your pokemon?" Raven stuck her tongue out at the pokemon. "Don't know, don't care, let's just go" the police ignored her, and motioned him to come in anyway.
The pokemon sat beside Raven, who was now expressing her burning hatred to the fighting type.
The man started slowly driving.
"He doesn't seem to be owned by anyone... would you like to keep him?"
Raven did not hide her scrunched up face. "Ew! No, he's mean" she pouted. "He dropped me after we ran away from a big bad wolf!" The pokemon glared at her, and she returned it.
The police had a surprised look on his face. "Did he save you from the big bad wolf?" "I could've run away in time! I'm super fast!" "But he helped you though, didn't he?"
Raven did not know how to combat this. He did indeed save, or at the very least, helped her escape the Mightyena. She couldn't put her hurt feelings past that though.

Raven looked down, defeated. "He's a strong pokemon, and you're lucky he was here" the police smiled. The stoplight was red, and he rummaged his bag, and handed her a pokeball.
"Tell you what, when your Tyrogue warms up to you, use this to catch him. I know you may hate each other now, but the time will come when you use this"
She gently grabbed the pokeball. There was an inflation in pokeball prices, likely due to many infultrations, forcing kids' parent's to buy it for them, if they could even afford it.

Raven looked at it in wonder, there was an odd noise when she tossed it between her hands. "Wow.."
The Tyrogue however, looked at it with disgust. He's heard many different things about the pokeball, but the word that lingered most to him was 'prison'.
He's heard horror stories about how many pokemon are left in pcs to die. Only the lucky ones are released.

"Ah we're here!" The police said gleefully, and parked beside a shabby looking store.
The the three of them hopped out of the car.

The policeman followed Raven to her home, making sure she doesn't get hurt. Her parents were in tears when they saw her again, and thanked the policeman reapeatedly.
The girl said her goodbyes to the policeman, and he drove away. Raven watched until the car lights were as far as the stars in the sky.

Her parents were upset with their only daughter, but seeing the girls face, their faces turned from red to one of empathy.
Raven told her adventure to her parents, of course not crediting the pokemon at all, receiving a grumbling Tyrogue.

While Raven told her very exaggerated version of the story to her family, pokemon walked around the shabby appartment. The smell of mold intoxicated his lungs, and the view was one comparable to those haunted houses.
He was in the midst of his own thoughts, when someone grabbed him from behind and  pulled him into a hug. "Thanks so much for saving our daughter" her throat choked a sob "she's all we have left".
Tyrogue's heart softened. He knew what it was like to lose someone dear to you. He would never wish that suffering onto anyone.

The pokemon pat her on the back, and the mother slid off the hug. She sniffled, and asked for a simple request.

"Can you protect our daughter for us?"
The pokemon nodded "Tyrogue!"
She smiled and hugged him again.
