For the next few days after crying over ourselves, Rose and I spent every moment together. Cora on the other hand, we barely saw her. We go to bed together and by the next morning she's gone. She's taken to skipping a couple classes also, which is so not like her. She may not care about classes and school in general, but she's always wanted to have straight Os to impress her family.
But I guess I know why she's skipped. There is no family for her to impress. The thing about Cora is, underneath her goofy exterior, she's been through more than I could imagine. She and Sirius are close though, because they've kind of been through the same thing. She calls her parents Muggle Blood purists, and his parents were blood purists as well. I don't know his story exactly, but I know it wasn't pretty. Apparently he was really close with Harry's mum too.
"Rose?"
"Yes?"
"Where's Cora?" We had finished classes three hours before, and I (surprise, surprise) had just gotten back from a date with Michael! Yep, we had drifted and now we were much closer. Currently, Rose and I were taking care of our laundry.
"I think that's she's at the library. Why?" Rose finished folding my shirt. We started with mine and would do hers afterwards. She knew why I was asking. Cora had ditched classes today completely.
"We have to at least tell Professor McGongall. We can't keep lying. All the professors can tell we are." I looked at a skirt I would never wear, and realized it was a skirt Lexi had loaned me when we were trying each other's closing. I folded it quickly.
"Would Cora be mad at us?"
"For what?" I looked toward the doorway and saw Cora. Damn, this girl knows hot to sneak up on people.
"Cora! Don't do that! You nearly gave me heart failure." Rose gasped.
"For what?" She asked again.
"Cors, you know you've been missing classes. And I understand the reason why." I started choosing my words carefully. I obviously didn't know her situation.
"We should at least tell Professor McGonagall why you have." Rose finished off for me.
Cora shrugged. "Do whatever. I don't really care."
"Cora!" I exclaimed.
"What?" She snapped.
"You know we're here for you. So stop pushing us away! You can talk to us about anything you know!" I retorted.
"Well maybe I don't want to. How do I know you won't spread rumors about me? Tell the entire school my parents wouldn't care less if I was dead." Cora blew an imaginary speck of dirt off of her finger, and rolled her eyes.
"Cora Anderson, you know damn well we would never do anything like that. You have known us for four years! Have we done anything like that to you? Ever? No. So stop with the attitude, and the need to start a fight about everything, just to prove to yourself that we don't care about you. That Ginny and I are going to leave you like a dirty tissue. Because, we're not going to do that. Alright? It doesn't have to be Cora against the entire WORLD! You have us always, and nothing, Cora, nothing is going to change us. You can scream at me, hurt me, do evil things to me all you want, but I don't give a fricking damn. I want you back. The real you. The one who's helped me with my homework. The one who teases Ginny about her boyfriend. The one who has always acted like our mother hen."
Cora looked mildly surprised for a second before her emotionless mask came back on. I was pretty surprised too. But Rose knew if I had spoken up, I would just turn it into a fight.
"Well, Laura Rose Thomas. Get one thing straight. The world isn't sunshine and daisies like you think. Just because the world is absolutely fucking perfect for you, doesn't mean it is for the rest of us. Look at Ginny. Her life is a mess. Her brothers, her crush who couldn't care less about her," well that hurt. "Her boyfriend barely pays attention to her. And I wonder how I'm her friend.
"You've stooped too low Cora!" I cried.
"Maybe. But, I'll have you know, Cho Chang is way better company than you are." Cora said coldly. She tossed her brown hair ( when did she start doing that anyway?) and blew us an exaggerated kiss. "Ta ta." She slammed the dormitory door closed on her way out
"What the heck was that?" I stared at the place Cora was at moments before.
"Cho did something. Like brainwashed her." Rose rolled her eyes. I swear, she's getting more rebellious every day.
"No. No! You were right when you said Cora is just looking for an excuse. This fight was a great one. An excuse to prove we'll leave her. You know she has awful trust issues. But I did think four years of friendship would show her that the world isn't ganging up on her." I went back to folding clothes.
And so did Rose. That night, I cried myself to sleep. Just as I entered the land of slumber, I heard a voice saying, "Goodnight little sis."
Was I dreaming already?
Hey you lot! This is a bit of a short update, but this is a dramalama one!
