TUESDAY NOVEMBER 3RD, 2009

Sighing, you put your head in your hands after closing your computer.

Note to self: Do not wait till 9 p.m. to begin grading assignments.

You place your laptop in your briefcase, alongside folders of your lessons plans for the next few weeks, double checking to assure you had everything packed and ready to go for tomorrow morning's 8 a.m. lecture.

The joys of being a college professor.

Not that you didn't love your job, because you do. Teaching, building, and developing young minds has always been something you deeply enjoyed. You didn't expect it to be about how to analyze the extremely wicked, shockingly evil, and vile criminals of America, but it'll do.

Having already showered and completed your nighttime routine, you climb into bed, taking in the way the cool sheets contrasted with the warmth of the comforter. You roll onto your stomach, bending one leg to create a comfortable sleeping position, and close your eyes, allowed your mind to wander. From anything, to everything, to nothing.

You'd never been one to just fall asleep. Unless you count numerous times in cars, couches, and even some classes back in grade school when you woke up to someone shaking your arm lightly and a very unhappy Language Arts teacher. You always had to focus on something specific. Something you could think about and obsess over with my eyes closed for long enough until you fell into the depths of unconsciousness. Tonight was no different.

You reach over to your nightstand to grab your phone, squinting due to the bright light hitting the pitch black room.

12:04 a.m.

Knowing you had to be up in less than seven hours only made the aggravation of sleep deprivation more prominent. Groaning, You try to focus on something else. Slowly but surely falling into the abyss of slumber, dreams filled with scenarios of what ever the world or some high power has in store for tomorrow.

But until then, for tonight, you'll go on to enjoy the few hours of rest you'd acquire. The light pitter-patter of raindrops hitting your window finally lulling you to sleep.
