A/N: This is just a warning that I changed who Johnny was a lot, so it's going to be quite different than how he was in the Outsiders. But to be fair, Ponyboy didn't work at a cafe and there were no illegal dogfights in the book either. I can do whatever I want because this is an AU! There is some animal cruelty mentioned. Ponyboy woke up. He was laying on his back. He could tell Johnny was awake beside him.
"Ponyboy?" Johnny asked.
"Yeah."
"I want to tell you what happened."
Ponyboy and Johnny were sitting on the sofa.
"I was supposed to run the dogfight arena when I got older," Johnny started," the woman who you saw me with, her name is Carma McKee. She's my aunt. I went to live with her after my parents died when I was 8. She got me working at the arena when I was 9. I would do little tasks, like sweep and clean floors. When I was 11, Carma let me feed the dogs. It was really dangerous. One of them bit off the tip of my thumb when I was 13. I've the years, I've done lots of things for Carma. She thought I liked it, running the ring. She wanted me to take over. She wanted to retire. She wanted me to take on her business. I didn't, don't, want to, but I needed to. That's why I cut it off with you. I couldn't see you if I were part of that. That's also why I wasn't around for those months. I tried to run away and I got caught. Carma locked me up for a while, but I'm okay now. I just really didn't want to take over her business. I don't want it do something that's illegal, you know. Anyways, I could never leave, but now I have. Thank you."
"You're welcome." Ponyboy said.
"You probably don't want me here anymore. Carma will send people after me. I need to go."
Johnny got up.
"No." Ponyboy grabbed Johnny's arm. "You will stay here. Please." He pulled him back to the sofa. Johnny rested his head on Ponyboy's shoulder.
"Thank you." He whispered. His eyes were closed. Ponyboy smoothed his hair across his forehead.
"It'll be okay, Johnny. It'll all be okay."
