Loving The Enemy // Benny Rodriguez

June 10th, 1962

"Y/n! You almost ready!" Jack shouted from downstairs

"Yeah i'll be down in a sec!" 

I was excited to go to the bonfire, It's always been one of my favorite events we have in the neighborhood, this is only one of many. 

Lets just hope Phillips isn't still sulking about practice and ruins the fun.

I went downstairs and Jack was sitting on the couch waiting for me

"Took you long enough" He sat up and started walking to the door

"I was gross from baseball, I had to shower" I said

"My showers take like 5 minutes" He said

"Yeah and I'm not an animal so I take good showers" 

"Rude" he said putting his shoes on

"Oh and I wrote a note for Mom and Dad incase they get back before us" He continued

Both of our parents worked at the local hospital so they work long shifts and are barely home. They leave at five in the morning before we wake up and get home anytime between eight and even as late as midnight depending on what goes down. 

Before they leave Mom usually makes some food like sandwiches and puts them in the fridge for us to eat whenever we want since neither of us can really cook much but Ramen.  

"Ok" I said putting my shoes on "Are we bringing Comet?" 

Comet was our golden retriever that we have had since we moved here years ago

"Sure why not, he can hang out with the other dogs" He said

"Comet! Come here boy!" I called 

He came running from downstairs ready to go, We didn't need to leash him because he's trained and knows not to go far. He would be to scared to run off anyway. 

Jack opened the door and we all walked out

"Is your girlfriend gonna be here" I said smirking

"First of all she's not my girlfriend-" 

"Yet" I cut in

He looked at me and widened his eyes "And second of all yes Mady will be there, I invited her"

"OoOoOoO" I said nudging his shoulder

"I hate you" He said nudging me back

"I know" I smiled and laughed a bit

When we walked passed Benny's house no one was outside so maybe he wasn't going, I sure hope so anyway 

"Is your boyfriend gonna be here?" Jack teased

"Of course" I said "and Parker"

"Great"

"Hey, they've come every other year" I said

"Exactly, you always hang out with them, its like you don't have other friends"

"That's because I've known them for a long time and there my best friends" I said

"Thanks to me" Jack said "If I wouldn't have made that team you would have never known them"

I rolled my eyes "Yes I know" 

"Maybe you should get to know Benny a bit" He teased knowing that I hate him

"Never in a million years" I said
