There he was again. The same guy who was hitting on Shigeru for the last week. It started with a somewhat cute letter he got from him one morning, which surprised Shigeru as he wasn't used to getting confessions. The guy himself wasn't bad looking, but that was about everything.
Shigeru told him he was already in a relationship right after he confessed, but the guy didn't seem to get the memo, asking Shigeru out every day since then. It was starting to get annoying.
"Hey, Yahaba-san!" the guy called across the hallway while running towards him with a wide smile.
Shigeru sighed heavily, bracing himself.
"What is it, Hara?"
The guy, Hara, glued himself close to his side. Too close for Shigeru's comfort.
"I was wondering if you'd like to go out with me today? I heard there is a new sushi place opened near the school."
Shigeru stepped aside a bit, trying to get more space between them.
"I'm sorry, but my answer is still no. I already told you I have a boyfriend, who is, by the way, waiting for me right now. So please, stop asking me out."
He picked up the pace to get away, but Hara just blocked his path.
"Oh, c'mon Yahaba-san," he whined. "One little date won't hurt anyone."
Shigeru couldn't believe his ears. He frowned, narrowing his eyes at Hara.
"First of all, yes, it would, and I have no intention of hurting someone I love. And second, I told you I am not interested, and nothing will change that. Now, if you excuse me, I want to go meet my boyfriend."
He pushed Hara aside, making a beeline out of the building to the school gate, where he usually met with Kyotani. He was fuming the whole way, wondering at the audacity of some people.
Kyotani was already waiting for him, looking impatient with his arms crossed on his chest.
"What took you so long?" he grumbled, pushing himself off the wall he was leaning on.
Shigeru's mood instantly spiked up.
"Sorry. That guy held me back again."
Kyotani snarled over Shigeru's shoulder in the direction of the school. Shigeru told him about the confession the very day it happened to prevent any misunderstandings that might come up from it. Kyotani didn't mind it too much. He knew Shigeru would never do anything behind his back, but hearing about the constant attempts of the guy to get Shigeru to go on a date made his blood boil.
"You should tell a teacher about it. This is starting to become borderline harassment."
Shigeru smiled and entwined their fingers together, tugging on Kyotani's arm to get them moving towards his house, where they were having their weekly movie date.
"It's fine. He's just annoying, nothing more."
"Maybe I should just punch him. That could help him remember what 'no' means."
"Please don't. Everyone already thinks you're a delinquent, don't give them proof."
Kyotani hummed in displeasure, squeezing Shigeru's hand tighter.
"I still don't like this. What if he does something to you?"
"Aw, are you worried about me?"
"Tsk, of course I am. You are my boyfriend, I'm supposed to care about you."
Shigeru's heart fluttered. He liked it when the spiker got all protective. He bumped their shoulders in reassurance.
"It'll be fine. I promise I won't be anywhere with him alone, and I'll tell the teacher if he tries something more, ok? Now hurry up, I wanna buy some snacks for the film. I'm starving."
.....................................
The practice the next morning was tiring, to say the least. Coach Mizoguchi was apparently in a bad mood, and the team found themselves to be the outlet. Fortunately, they were saved after an hour of drills by the arrival of coach Irihata, but the damage was already done, and they all went to their classes looking like zombies after an all-nighter.
Shigeru sighed when the last lesson before lunch break was finally over. His stomach was growling, which made it almost impossible to focus on the subject.
He quickly collected his things and went to the staircase leading up on the roof, where the team usually gathered for lunch. Now that the third years weren't the fix members of the team anymore and weren't obliged to go to practice, it was also a good opportunity to catch up with them. Not that they had a choice with Oikawa's constant talking. Shigeru sometimes wondered if he ever ran out of air.
"Yahaba-san, wait up!"
Shigeru gritted his teeth. Not this again.
"What do you want, Hara?"
The guy caught up with him, his annoying smile plastered on his face.
"Do you wanna have lunch together? I know a really pretty spot, almost as pretty as you," he added with a wink.
Shigeru cringed inwardly at the terrible attempt at flirting but tried to look as unbothered as possible.
"Sorry, I'm already having lunch with the team. Which I'm running late for, so if you excuse me-"
Hara blocked his path.
"They can eat without you for once, can't they?"
Shigeru sighed, dropping every last bit of politeness he tried to maintain.
"Look, I tried to be nice, but you clearly don't get the message. Stop asking me out. I. Am. Not. Interested. I won't go out with you. I'm not going to date you, not now and not ever, since you clearly don't know how to take 'no' for an answer. Now leave me alone."
Hara stared at him for a moment with an emotionless face before smirking at him and lowered his head to lean to Shigeru's ear.
"Well, maybe you will change your opinion at some point," he purred into his ear, sending ice-cold shivers down Shigeru's spine.
He quickly slipped around Hara and ran up the stairs as fast as he could.
