4.You're Too Much!

"I'm sorry that can't be. You're just wasting your time here, you clearly know my answer. This is just downright unacceptable Li stop thinking ahead, don't forget I can literally hear your thoughts."
"Dad! Atleast make little efforts to NOT remind me that you know what I think. I don't even know what to say anymore?!"
"It's alright sweetie but you must know I'd never allow you on a vacation let alone with a boy! No matter who he is but your coniux not that he'd have any shit from me anyway but till then think of boys as monsters."
"Dad you are from the same gender whom you are claiming monsters."
"I can be monstrous too when someone would as much as lay a finger of trouble on you. So save up their asses by not landing in any mess."
Liora recalls the incident when she was a child and some other kid took her ice cream. She bursted crying and dad was quick enough to buy another not before giving the kid death glare and a horrer story about how the ice cream snatched will turn into monster and chomp on him. The kid was so afraid that he threw the ice-cream, even I was afraid to have another. To a 3 year old me, it really was scary.
Dad smirks before continuing, "You still remember that?! Oh my Li." he laughs.
"What would it take for you to stay away from poking nose in my mind?" I say irritated at the constant intrusion. It's as though my thoughts ain't mine anymore.
"OK ok relax. Li I can't help it, I never really went without not poking your mind so it's just not possible for me to not. Stop giving me that look. Fine! I'll do a good job at concealing it."
Liora looks incredulously at her father.
"Lost cause of me ramping my head and that's what you take!
You're gonna conceal your interference that's all?!"
"Well how do you think you found it just when I decided to tell. I concealed it till day before yesterday that's how! Anyway stop straying off topic the fact remains that you ain't going and that gives you another opportunity to pick another gift for yourself. " dad says enthusiastically as though I was 5.
" Dad you promised me you'd get me whatever I ask then what's this? "
" Sweetheart I promised because you're a reasonable child and I thought you'd never ask me anything baseless. It's not like I was gonna listen to you asking me to kill our neighbors."
"But I'm not asking you to kill anybody just allow me to go on a vacation with my damn boyfriend. He had been protecting me since childhood. I'm appalled that you still have trust issues in this matter!"
"Li, sweetie you don't understand! Ahh why are we even talking about this? Outside is dangerous, period."
"I go to university, it's outside world. You're being king of hypocrisy right now."
"That's only because education is the most honored and worshiped in human world and this is where you're gonna spend your life so I'm making you fit in better ."
"You're making me live in isolation that's all! You want me to fit in better right? Than allow me to go on trip like normal people do!"
"Li stop acting like a kid. What's gotten into you? You ain't human, you don't even know how to mix.."
"Dad as if you know! I've been living my life in school and university hiding my freaky abilities. I have learnt it the hard way that not everyone produces fire or sees things. I was able to escape attention till now. I have been proving everyday how normal I am. I can very well handle people as well as myself." I huff proudly to which dad sighs.
" Just exactly how do you think people forget what you do? How did people forget when you set a boy on fire in middle of school and you were just in 6th grade. How could anyone forget that? Is that how you act normal?!"
"Dad you don't have to worry, even if I pull up a stunt I'm telling you no one remembers the next day. It's miracle maybe they think of it as a dream or something.. I don't know." Li shrugs in genuine innocence.
"Li since I sent you kindergarden I have been erasing everyones memories. Whenever you do something unnatural in human world, I mop the mess you create. My mind is attuned to yours I know what you think and do. That's how you are able to steer away from danger. You're about to turn 17 and still look at how careless you are, you manipulated every teacher to give you straight A despite your blank answer sheets! If you get caught, it won't be pretty for ramen sake atleast write the answers but no! How can someone be so lazy and stupid. If you want an A then get it no problem but atleast be smart enough to compel the teacher to write answers for you It gets difficult to keep track of your professors for me and compel them to write. Use that mind of yours for once will you?! . I make sure to fill in your answers from an actual professor and believe me that's a ton of work. Hell I feel like a secret agent making you blend. You never knew how to blend it was me in the background wiping off memories or compelling them with suggestions . Enough now if you really want to live normal than you need to act normal for once Li. Even by mojibyon standards you are far from NORMAL, to top it off this is not even our world. "
I was stunned would be an understatement in the least. I thought I was God's favourite!
" I am sorry to burst the bubble but I have been doing an unhealthy amount of God work for you! You can't be careless in this world Li.. It's not ours. "
" Then let's go to the world where we belong. I don't wanna live like this. You don't allow me anywhere other than university, I feel nothing but a prisoner. I want to live a normal life that's what I ask simple."
"Do you want to kill me Li?"
Dad asks in all seriousness. It's making my eye twitch at the emotional melodrama he was about to create that mind of his knows nothing but drama.
"Dad really? Now is that what you'd say when I wanna go on a trip."
"No Li, if you go outside and stay in a place for more than three days apart from university and home it'd be the end of me coz they'd take you away from me and they wouldn't even need to kill me, I'd be as good as dead without you." dad says with so much anguish and pain that I am taken aback for a moment by his intensity.
" What are you talking about? Who are 'they' you're reffering to? Why would anyone take me away from you? " the idea of me being away from dad is not only barbaric but insane to me.
"Why to trouble that overthinking mind of yours when nothing like that is gonna happen! I won't ever separate from you. You being my sweet girl will listen to me and we shall never part."
"Dad you are being Rapenzal's evil mother right now, talking in circles all I wanted was to spend some time with Matt and here you are being a drama queen. I don't understand anything of what you just said. How come I be safe in university and house what's so special with these places? Are you making stories to get me off from asking you to go outside?" I ask narrowing my eyes at dad.
" You don't have to understand anything but must know that this house is the safest place for you in human world, I did everything to make it impenetrable to the eyes of our world and people. They can't find you here, I've casted all the spells known to witches and wizards since eons. I even did spells on university and did it to your school before. The spell breaks off if your presence is not there for six months straight. In that case I would need to do the spells again. " Dad says exasperatedly as though the information should have been oblivious to me. Hello till day before yesterday I believed I was human though a nutcase, but a freakin human!
" Fine! Whatever.. What are you gonna gift me then? A frog prince as my date?"
"All you want to do is spend time with Matt right?" dad states the obvious.
"Yes, he's my boyfriend and all we do is meet at lunch time in university and while he walks me home. It feels like love in a Nazi camp."
"I see, well ok then you can spend as much time with him as you want!" he says brightly urging me to be happy but there has to a catch. He can't agree that soon.
"But -"
"Ahh here comes the but!"
"Sweetheart spend as much time with him as you want. If you are gonna stay in human world forever which you will, I might get you married with Matt no doubt. The but here would be spend the time here. He has 24 /7 access to this place from today. Spend time here no need to go outside. " dad says cheerily in hopes of making my mood better. I'd been sullen since morning today. Sunday morning doesn't deserve this.
Whatever the point, I am happy to be able to spend time with Matty.
" Thank you dad!" I say happily though he makes me feel like a North Korean citizen under mercy of Kim Jong-un.
