Shiro!Kaneki x Reader

*Based on Chapter 88 of the Tokyo Ghoul manga.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

You wished that you were an important person to Kaneki. You really wanted to be a special person to him, one that he wants to protect. You supposed that you were, but just not in the way you wanted.

"I want to give onii-chan the same feeling just like when he's with her. Touka onee-chan can always make my loneliness disappear as well Kaneki onii-chan's. I want to help him too." Hinami uttered to Banjou in a downcast way. "He always looks so sad."

You truly did love Touka - she was your best friend and you missed her, but you also loved Kaneki Ken. Your love for him was different from the way you loved Touka. It hurt how you weren't as important to him as he was to you. Of course, you would make sure to never visibly show that weakness nor your feelings for him.

You noticed the half-ghoul's sweet demeanor from when he was a human. You were a ghoul who also went to Kamii University. Because you were an emotionally detached person, people tended to avoid you or dislike you. It got lonely at times, but Kaneki managed to befriend you despite being frightened of you at first. He was amazing at understanding people, since he even got along with Touka, who was arguably even more tsundere than you were. You fell for that kindness he showed you even though you honestly thought that you didn't deserve it at times.

Even when he became a half-ghoul, he still retained much of his inherent gentleness. When he joined Anteiku and realized that you were a ghoul as well, you expected him to reject you - to truly fear the monster that was you. Surprisingly he took it pretty well, well after a period of a few rough days.

After Yamori's torture though, Kaneki changed in both appearance and personality. His hair turned white, void of color, and his nails became a midnight black. However, Kaneki was still Kaneki and you could see the remnants of his former self within him. That was why you followed him along with Banjou and the other refugees from the Aogiri incident instead of returning to Anteiku with Touka.

He was a completely new person, yet simultaneously was the same. You liked to think that the horrific event just unlocked his hidden potential - his inner strength.

"Ah, I see." Banjou said, pulling you out of your thoughts. He was smiling good naturedly at the short haired girl. "You're really kind."

It was at that moment that someone else made their presence. "Bonsoir (good evening), everyone!" Tsukiyama entered the room, peering around in order to get a glimpse of Kaneki. Not seeing him anywhere, Tsukiyama let out a sigh. "Is Kaneki-kun taking a shower right now?"

"Yes." Banjou said gruffly, annoyed by Tsukiyama. He didn't trust the guy one bit.

"Oh, Tsukiyama-san!" Hinami exclaimed, "Are those sunflowers?" You realized that she was talking about the flowers that Tsukiyama held in his arms. They were quite pretty in a simple way.

"They're beautiful, no?" Tsukiyama questioned as he twirled one of the flower stems in his fingers. "They're called rudbeckia." He glanced around the room, commenting, "I believe that these flowers can liven up the area a bit." Smiling, he placed a flower into Hinami's hair. "Here, a flower for the little lady. You look so refined."

Rolling his eyes, Banjou grumbled to himself, only to startle when Tsukiyama also positioned a flower into his hair as well. "Oi, what the hell is this?!"
