A strong force pushes Hayden into me. I catch myself before I fall, reaching my arms out in an attempt to balance myself. I shake my head to rid myself of the dizziness that comes soon after.

This morning was chaotic.

--------------

When I woke up, it felt like I hadn't even slept.

I wiped the grogginess from my eyes and yawned, stretching my sore body in a way that always felt so good first thing in the morning.

I had a shower and went downstairs only to catch my brother already eating his breakfast. I picked up the cereal box next to him on the table and turned it upside down.

It was empty.

"Is this the last box?" I asked, glancing at his cereal. The large bowl was filled so high with it that it was almost overflowing.

"Yep." Hayden chirped in response.

How could he be so happy about letting me starve?

I swung open the cupboard closest to me.

Empty.

I tried the other.

Also empty.

I groaned, rubbing my hand through my hair. Because I didn't brush it, I found that my fingers got locked in halfway through.

Fuck it, I didn't have the time nor the energy to fix it. I bent my head over and used a scrunchie on my wrist to pull the thick hair into a bun at the top of my head.

My stomach whined at the movement.

Guess I was going to school without any breakfast...or dinner last night. Once Hayden and I returned from our 'run', we passed out immediately. It was about 3 am, so in total, I'd slept for only 3 hours.

I silently prayed that my werewolf  strength and resilience powers would kick in soon.

"Where's Dad?" I asked.

"At work."

So on top of my hunger, I have to walk? To school?

Keep in mind that I could easily shift and get there quickly, shortening the 40 minute trek to 10. But I couldn't risk being seen. I didn't want to stress Dad out even more.

"You know we can just skip and stay home, right?" I said, opting for the easier option of not going to school at all.

Hay glanced at the empty cereal box.

"With no food?" He challenged, raising an eyebrow.

Although he's right, I casted him a glare.

---------------

We eventually left the house and began our 2 mile journey to school.

More specifically, to a school where we do not have any friends.

All anyone ever does is stare at us.

I rub my stomach as it growls for what seems like the millionth time.

"Sorry," my brother says for the first time, "I finished the cereal to make you angry because it's always funny when you're mad, but now I just feel bad. Because that was literally the last of the food in the house."

"Now you want to apologise?" I ask him incredulously.

He looks at me expectantly. "Yes. I can buy you something now, if you'd like? We have about 20 minutes to spare."
