As the 5 girls sit in Spencer's barn awaiting their sixth members arrival there is laughter and drinking. When Alison turns up the group is complete and the night of fun can begin.
"I'm loving Beyoncé's new music video." Emily announces.
"Yeah, maybe a little too much Em", Alison comments, not a big deal to most of the girls, but shaking Emily up a bit.
Once all the girls fall asleep there is quiet in the barn, after a night of sharing secrets, as friends do.
Olivia is woke up by Aria with the missing presence of Spencer and Alison, then Spencer returns with the news that Alison is missing, "I think I heard her scream", and with that the lives of those 5 girls changed forever.A YEAR LATER.
During the year the girls had grown apart, Aria had moved to Iceland, Hanna had become the new it girl with Mona, Emily through herself into swimming, Spencer was the perfect student and Olivia had become the ultimate party girl.
On the first day of the new year Olivia was sat in English when Aria and Hanna walked in, then Hanna and Mona, then Spencer. She could hear Emily explaining to Aria that the whole group had fallen out of touch since she'd been away.
"Holy crap", their new teacher says, Olivias head was hurting too much to really notice what he was referring to and went back to resting her head in the table for the rest of the lesson. The night before had been the back to school party and she'd being drinking and dancing with people she barely knew until 4 am, then she stumbled home and crawled into bed.
After school she went home to her empty house. She was an only child, her mother had died 8 months ago and her Dad was barely around. It made her party life easier, but made her incredibly lonely. Perhaps why she'd been lead into the arms of Noel Kahn, who was on his was over to see his friend, with occasional benefits.
First with the loss of Ali, then her mum, she'd been surrounded by too much loss to remain the same. So she'd transformed from the quiet girl in the back of class, to the party girl who was doing whatever and whoever she wanted every weekend, she figured it was better to be constantly busy and drunk, than have to face her loses and grief. She'd started hanging around with Noel Kahn, after all, he through the best parties, and had hooked up with him, and several other guys who went to these parties. She knew lots of people from these parties, she wouldn't call them friends, she didn't do friends anymore, but she knew them.
Once Noel got there, he wanted to talk which shocked Olivia as she was expecting it to be their usual; arrive, drink, sleep together, leave. But he wanted to talk, he wanted to talk about his brother Eric. With the mention of Eric's name, Olivias stomach sank, she thought Noel had figured out that she had slept with him a few weeks ago. But that wasn't it, he was merely telling her that Eric had gotten them fake IDs so they could go out with him and his friends at the weekend. After that they got back to the routine. See, they weren't friends, not really, they didn't speak at school that much, they were drinking buddies, but that meant something to each of them, after all they did spend a lot of time together drinking, and he was the closest thing to a friend she had at the moment. She didn't want to ruin that by him finding out about her and his brother.
Once he left, as she was getting dressed she got a text.
"Why do you always go for older brothers? Bet Noel would love to know the answer to that one. - A".
Olivia froze, the only person who could've sent this text was Alison. A few months before Ali went missing, Liv has found out about her mums diagnosis and turned to a bottle of vodka for comfort, she'd found her way to a party where she bumped into Jason, Ali's brother. After a night of drinking they'd ended up in bed together and vowed never to tell anyone else. But Alison had found out when she caught Jason returning one of Olivias earrings a couple days later, and she never let her live it down.
After receiving that text she decided to go on a walk. On her way back she saw the sirens outside of Allison's old house and walked over to where Aria, Spencer and Hannah were stood. No words needed to be said, but they found comfort in being stood besides each other once again, if only briefly.
At the funeral the girls where all sat at the front, as per Mrs Dilaurentis's wishes. Hannah had given Emily her hip flask and Liv grabbed it and downed some, before handing it back. Today was an unusual day, they were all at the funeral of one of their best friend and sat next to their other best friend who they'd barely spoken to over the past year, with all the mixed emotions drinking from the hip flask was understandable to all of them, even if they themselves wouldn't.
Then Aria got a text, all the girls were worried it was from A, but it was just her mum. Aria could see the panic in all the girls faces.
"Me and Emily aren't the only ones who got texts from A, are we?" Aria said, then they all realised A had text them all.
"Oh my God" Spencer exclaimed, noticing Jenna walk into the church, leaving the girls stunned.
"I didn't know they were friends." Ali's mum stated.
"They weren't." Liv answered, all of the girls had a complicated past with Jenna, the last thing they needed was the Jenna thing to come out.
On their way out of the service they were called out by Detective Wilden. Liv awkwardly looked down to the ground, not wanting to remember her last encounter with the Detective.
"Rest assured, I will find out what happened that summer." He announced then walked away leaving the girls scared.
"Do you think he knows about?" Hanna asked.
"No how could he." Aria responded.
Then all the girls phones went off, receiving a text that left them all shocked.
"I'm still here bitches, and I know everything - A".
