I stare down at the flesh that held my mother's barcode, just stare, compelling my body, willing my brain to believe that indeed, she is still alive. They said they'd killed her, said it was a sanction for my sins, but now, now this monstrosity tells me she is alive and breathing, that all this while, she's been in the torture chambers!
Here is how it all started. In the wee hours of the morning, Noe had woken feeling much better, and was in the kitchen area, cooking us breakfast, before his dewei piece beeped. He turned towards me, said that the soldiers at the peeks, had brought in more survivors, twelve in number, and that he'd have to leave to tend to them.
I insisted on tagging along, interested in lending a helping hand where I could, and he accepted the proposal. So, after breakfast and our morning routine, we were padding down halls, taking sharp corners, until we finally came up to another more secluded chamber.
When I first glimpsed at five of the said victims, I knew I had seen them somewhere before, they looked awfully familiar. I chose to help one, stitch up the claw-like markings plastered on her back, as Tokyo, Anwyll and Magnolia, administered simulation healing in a different room, on the others that had far worse injuries.
The one I'd offered to assist, a redhead female who was sat on the bed in the furthest corner of the room, whispered to me, told me she knew who I truly was, and that my mother, Enya, was in desperate need of my salvation. The news hit me like a tone of bricks, and for a brief moment, I stopped stitching, and simply gazed at the female like she was deranged.
I told her I wasn't going to fall for her deception, told her my mother was long gone, and in response, she simply said, "You heard it, you did not see it."
Then, she reached for the pockets of her tattered trousers, retrieved the flesh of Enya, the skin that held her barcode tattoo, and I felt my world crumble. Then it hit me. Of course, these people were here on a mission to attack the bunker, and retrieve me as if I were some mineral.
And so, for a minute and a half, I stared, simply stared at the flesh of the woman who, according to Siobhan, was dead. Do ghosts exit? Does the afterlife work in harmony with the present life? Those were the questions reeling through my mind. And now, as I glare at the female's back, my eyes begin to sting, and without contemplating any further, I reach for the scalpel sat atop the table to my right, and plunge it deep into her claw-like markings, tearing further. Blood splatters, sips, spits onto the skin on my face, but I feel numb, no remorse whatsoever.
I jerk from the sit, now attracting the attention of my fellow helpers, reach for the woman by her hair strands, and spin her to face me, pressing her back against the closest walls.
"Tell me the truth! Tell me, is she still alive! Answer me!"I shriek in raw, unfiltered agony, as the ache shreds my heart. Blood dribbles down the corners of her mouth, but my mind hardly registers the scarlet.
"Tallulah, Tallulah what are you doing! Put her down!"
My head snaps in Noe's direction, and amidst the wells that temporarily blind my vision, I see him matching up to me.
"They are here on Siobhan's orders! She sent them, Noe. She..."My words are cut short by two sounds; the noice of the redhead choking on her own blood, and the nerve-grating voice coming from one of the said survivors, who's ordering us to kneel and raise our arms in surrender. I turn to face the redhead, reach for her neck, and snap it immediately, rendering her lifeless.
"Subject 3033, you are hereby ordered to stand down and the come with us, lest we execute every person occupying this bunker, starting with him!" The male bellows, pointing the muzzle of a small ray gun in Noe's direction.
"I am going nowhere with you! I will kill all of you," I grit, my words laced with poison.Tokyo, who's knelt down behind him, leaps in one calculated motion, reaches for the man's head, and literally rips skull from body. Taking advantage of the state of confusion, Noe lungs for the other fellow, a purple-haired male, and presses his thumbs deep into the man's eye sockets, causing him to screech in torment.
Then, he reaches for the man's ribcage, drives fingers past ribs, and retrieves the man's pumping heart.
Suddenly, Tokyo drops on her knees, clutching her shoulder, wincing and grimacing, as her own blood oozes from the open gamma ray wound. At the doors, stand two more intruders in worn out clothes, holding two large gamma-ray guns. One aims it in Tokyo's direction, while the other, holds it directed towards Noe.
"Subject 3033, we have planted explosive devices onto every single individual inside this bunker. Failure to return with us, to your mother, as well as to your creators, will result in the execution of innocents. Your choice."
No, this is one of those vivid nightmares, not reality, just a horrifying dream.
I turn to face Noe, who's in turn staring in my direction with wide, concerned eyes.More soldiers flood the room, matching up to the two cousins, and pinning them roughly against floors. As I move to tackle them down, thick metal slams into the back of my head, and my knees kiss the grounds, before my body falls flat in fragility.
A booted foot rests on my skull, another on the small of my back, and my limbs are held and shackled firmly. Tokyo, all this while, remains mute, her chest heaving heavily, her breathes laboured, and eyes bulging.
Anxiety attack!
"Let them go! Release them right now!" Noe bellows, battling against his captors, only for a foot to strike his side.
He grunts lowly, hisses in pain, then spits out crimson."We should bring him along. Siobhan would love to run fertility tests on subject 3033 in the near future, and he would come in handy," another soldier, a brunette female, suggests, and the rest burst into fits of laughter.
Once Tokyo's arms are bound by chains, the muzzle of a gun slams into her temple, effectively rendering her unconscious. The soldiers hoist my body, working to drag me past the doors, despite Noe's demands for my release.
A hefty blow lands on his cheek, followed by another, and another, and as my head turns, I clearly paint out the scarlet oozing from past his mouth, with eyes swollen, and facial skin purple and broken.
"Leave him be! Leave him alone, I am the one you seek! Leave him!"
The brunette only retrieves a syringe, punctures the skin on his neck, and his head falls forward, hanging low.
I thrush my body, steel chains gnawing and tearing through the flesh on my limbs, as the soldiers drag me down multiple halls, and to an assembly hall. The people are knelt, some clutching the only family members they have left, while others tremble and shake in horror, with explosives strapped to their bodies.
My eyes rake the crowd, till they fall on my nurse, who's holding her niece firmly against her chest, embracing her with all her might, as the muzzle of a gun is pressed against her head firmly.
I put all these innocent individuals in harm's way, I am the cause of their troubles and terror."Detective Euphrasia, I found the nurse with the chip!" Another puppet of Siobhan yells, and the Euphrasia female, the one that had made snide remarks on my fertility earlier, smirks, then nods.
The fiery-amber rays of the gun clutched in the man's palms, pierce right through my nurse's head, and I find myself shrieking on the top of my lungs, screaming and yelling, while the other knelt members draw away from the gory remains of her cracked skull.
The little girl, Joella, is pulled away from the grotesque scene, by one of the survivors, all the while crying and balling her eyes, calling out to Nana.
"You monsters! She did nothing, said nothing! She was unarmed and you executed her on her knees! That is against protocol!" I bellow with clenched jaws, battling to keep from releasing the streams of tears threatening to fall.
"Siobhan will not have word of her execution. As for subject 3033 and her lover, knock them both out cold," is the only response she has to offer, before turning and matching further down halls....
