Control over the Phoenix

Chapter 1

Hello Babes, So I started this story a couple of days ago. I don't have plans for it to continue unless something sparks ideas. If you'd like to see more of this story continue please comment and let me know. By the way, Phoenix's middle name is Ember so her nicknames are Em and Emmy. I hope you like this "one-shot". It's on the tamer side of romance because the characters are not quite together yet...but it could get there.

It was a beautiful morning at the Avengers compound. Most of the team was either still asleep or just waking up for breakfast. Phoenix was just finishing up her morning run coming inside when she bumped into her friend Steve. "Oh hey Rogers, Sorry I'm too into my music" she laughs taking her buds out of her ears. "It's okay Em, was your run good?" he asks, taking a breath and putting his hands on his hips like he always does. Em lets out a breath seeing the super soldier in front of her with his tight shirt, piercing blue eyes, and longer blonde hair. Does this man even own a shirt bigger than a small one?. "It was much needed after the mission the other day".  she smiles leaning in the doorway taking a drink of her water. Steve admired her trailing his eyes over her smooth and goddess-like skin.

This relationship didn't start off the greatest. Phoenix was captured by Hydra in 2015 in September just as the leaves were starting to fall. A group of them was watching her every move around the city. She had a feeling she was being followed but didn't notice too much because her mind was occupied with other things at the moment. Sokovia had just fallen into the ocean and the Avengers team had just saved the world but not without casualties. The newer Avengers; Wanda, her brother Pietro, Sam Wilson, and Vision were all starting to train with Rogers and Romanoff at the new Avengers compound that Tony had built. Phoenix went on her typical run like she does every morning at 5 am. Out of the compound doors and down the trail in the woods. That is when Hydra grabbed her. Injecting her with a serum to dull her powers and put her unconscious, unable to fight. After Steve, Natasha and Clint got Phoenix back after three weeks, they haven't left her side. Tony also gave her a bracelet that alerts him if her vitals go down too quickly or she doesn't put in a password in a certain amount of time if she leaves the compound. A little overkill? Or just protective?. Since then Steve and Phoenix have been inseparable. They have known each other since before the battle of New York and they have been best friends ever since. But they'd be lying if they didn't admit there is sexual tension when they are around each other.

"Yeah, I can understand that. We almost lost you. You recover fast though thankfully" he smiles putting his hand on the side of the door she's leaning on as he leans in front of her. Sucking in a breath from seeing Steve tower over her as he does, she smiles. "Yeah, I can't thank you guys enough for getting me back."  He smiles, dropping his hand to her shoulder and squeezing lightly. "Always Em...always" he smiles while leaving to go shower. She stands there a moment thinking about if she should tell him how she feels before it's too late.

The rest of the day went by pretty normally. Steve trained Pietro, Sam and helped Vision with some things. Natasha and Em helped Wanda get accustomed to being an Avenger. Natasha, Wanda, and Em have pretty much become inseparable since Sokovia. Especially with there being so many boys around. Wanda is grateful to Em for saving her brother from Ultron shooting down on the team when he went to save Clint and the boy. Em's powers allow her to control the elements and can also teleport when needed. The only downfall to the powers she has is she is an Empath. Meaning when Ember feels she feels deep and everything and everyone's emotions affect her. Wanda has helped her immensely with controlling her empathic abilities and lessen the side effects she gets from being in high-stress and high-emotion situations. Which happens a lot with this team. After training they all three go on a walk together on a beach Ember teleports them to.

"I say today's training session went well " Nat smiles, nudging Em's shoulder as she walks next to her, with Wanda on the other side of Em. "Yeah, I think it did as well. I think my accent and my control is getting better, " Wanda smiles at both the girls. Em stays quiet walking with them feeling the water hit her feet as they walk down by the water. "Phoenix what's wrong?" Nat asks her as they walk, noticing she's not as happy as she usually is. "I don't know...it's just Steve lately. I've been feeling his emotions when he's around me and it's confusing. It's like there is so much tension but so much conflict" she says shrugging. "Well no shit Em. Steve is totally in love with you and probably has been since we got him into Shield after the ice" she looks at Em like it's an obvious thing. "Oh shut up Nat...there is no way. Steve doesn't like me like that. " she shakes her head sitting down in the sand. Nat and Wanda sit on either side of her. Wanda places her hand on Em's leg. "I try not to read everyone's minds when I'm around them out of respect but the looks he gives you Em. He loves you " she smiles and Em looks down. "I can't..even if he does" Em looks out over the water. "Why not Em?" Nat asks, rubbing her shoulder. "Because Steve is just too perfect I don't want to hurt him. After I was taken they did things that I'll never get back. I can't give Steve what he wants.." She looks down. "Oh come on Em. If you both love each other you should just go for it. Like we saw a few weeks ago. We don't know what is going to happen with our line of work. Might as well take that chance" Nat says, rubbing her back. All three of them get up and teleport back to the compound. "Whatever," Em says, going to her room to take a shower.
