The Summer Camp Mystery
BY ALIYAH CURTIS
3/15/21"Summer camp is going to be so fun this year!" My little sister Anna said, as she walked down the stairs of our house. "Do you know why?" She asked me, tugging on my shirt.
"No, I don't, tell me." I answered back. Anna smiled and she looked as if her little blond ponytails were about to fall off her head. She always had them so tight.
"Well," she said, "this year, they're holding a talent show on the boat!" Anna was excited every year for summer camp, I mean, why wouldn't she be? She gets to do fun stuff for 3 weeks and hang out with all her 2nd grade friends. But this year, there's going to be a talent show on the boat, which is actually really exciting. In case you're wondering, the boat is basically a giant dock that floats over the water of the lake, and it has bleachers, tables, and a basketball hoop. Every year, me and my friends usually hang out on the boat around lunch, while the boys play basketball. I play basketball too but my friends don't, so usually play in the mornings. No one knows why they call it the boat, but Ms.Dickens says that it was named that 10 years ago, when someone un-attached it from the land and it went down the lake, and into the river, and almost went down the waterfall! That's one of the reasons that they built the dam at the end of the river, in case someone left the lake. The camp is pretty old, my mom went there as a kid, and my grandma went as a kid, and me and my sister go every year.
"And the best part," Anna continued, "is that anyone can do anything! As long as it's not dangerous. And guess what Jakie, it's at the end of the summer so we have a little more than 3 weeks to prepare." She smiled, "I forgot!" She froze, then stared at me, smiled, then ran up stairs. I guessed that she ran up stairs to change, which she did a lot. She originally was wearing a purple T-shirt with a blue butterfly on it. She was also wearing a pink skirt that had sequins in shapes of hearts. Her outfits were very girly, unlike my outfits. I usually wear a backwards hat, or a ponytail, jeans, a tank top, and a sweater around my waist. Anna loves princesses, fairies, the usual. On the other hand, I enjoy soccer, basketball, rollerblading, and stuff like that. Anna came down the stairs wearing a pink dress, with little fabric flowers covering the end of the dress. She also had a fairy wand that our grandma gave her. Oh! And of course. Her signature wings. She has these neon pink fairy wings that she wears everywhere. Someone finds them at the ballet studio, op, that's Anna's. They see one like it at the store, oh! That's the same one that Anna has. They find it in the school lost and found in, op! That's Anna's.
Anna twirled around as if she was a princess and said, "How do I look?"
"You look wonderful." I said smiling. Anna started spinning around some more and went faster and faster, until all you could see of her was a blur, and her dress spinning around her as if she was a planet. I was guessing that she didn't know where she was going because after five seconds of her spinning, she came toward me, then pushed me, and I tripped over the rug, and my nice thick black hair that I had just gotten done, got soaked into my cereal that I was about to eat.
"Anna!" I said as I got up, "Why?!" She looked at me as if I was complaining for no reason.
"What did I do?" She wailed, her cute baby blue eyes stared at me innocently. Just then, Mom came down the stairs.
"Are you two ready to go?" She asked as she walked toward the door and put her purse on her shoulder. "Jakie, why is your hair all wet? It soaked your shirt!" And she was right. My shirt was all wet from the milk.
"Anna pushed me into the table, and my cereal-"
"Go change your shirt, and go fast because I don't want to bring you to summer camp late." I sighed and walked up the stairs. My mom loved to make a good impression, even on the people that she already knew. She says it's because she doesn't want to ruin her reputation. What reputation does she have? I don't know. But my mom is pretty cool. She has blue eyes, blond hair, and for some reason, she doesn't like wearing green. My mom's job is a lawyer, but I don't know much about it. I actually was glad that I had to change because the outfit that I was wearing was too "girly". I also left my suitcase up stairs and it would be terrible if I left it here. One summer, I left my suitcase at home, and the only things that I could wear was the outfit that I was wearing, which got really stinky, and the clothes from the lost and found bin which were 1.All the clothes were girly
2.They were NOT my style
3.People would every once and a while would say "That's my shirt!" or "Did you steal my jacket? I've been looking for that everywhere!" I would very much like it if that didn't happen again.
I ran down the stairs with my suitcase, and walked out the door, grabbing my hat on the way out. You know how Anna has her fairy wings? Well my hat to me, is like her fairy wings to her. It was white and had a black outlining around it, and I usually wore it backwards.
