the beginning to a new beginning

it's never been this bad before, seeing my house burn to ashes, seeing two i love most for the last time, but in the way i never expected. It's almost like it didn't happen, but it did, because when i call their names all i hear is an echo back, of what i know is my own..
a month later (present day)
I watched the rain drip down my window, two drops raced i concentrated as the silence in the car got stronger. Usually i would laugh at the raindrops but when i looked beside me the other seat was empty. "Ya know Clara the town has great reviews and ratings on the activity programs" a voice from the passenger seat explained. The only thing I could focus on is the rain dripping down the window. Why does every drop run at a different pace? why is this so mesmerizing? the only thing keeping my focus was the damn rain, how exciting.
"Clara you should respond to your grandmother when she's talking to you" I lost focus on what was once the pacing rain, "yes dad" what felt like hours had come to an end, "Welcome To Wellsfield" a big brown and white sign read entering a new location. "Here we are!" "Clara you will love it here". The look of this new town looked different, not the bad different but the good different, a relief, a weight taken off your shoulders. "This is where you guys are staying, also known as my house". Clara looked at the nice floral scenery of her Grandmas home. "If only they got to see this" Clara exclaimed in her mind while walking up the walkway.

"I really appreciate you giving us a place to stay Mom" "Oh Dan, as if I would let you sleep in that shelter for any longer, now let's bring your stuff up and i'll get you set up to your rooms" Clara barely listened to the conversation withholding the room, she was still processing the new chapter of her life which began the day of the- "Clara! come upstairs hun!" a voice yelled from the upper level. Clara dragged her bags up the creaky old stairs as she brought her gloominess up with her. "There you are kiddo! your rooms the second door to the left" Claras Grandmother added. The floors creaked more and more as Clara got to her room. The room looked just like her old one, a small closet, a window left of the bed and a tiny night stand under the window, but this room appeared bigger. "What do you think? I tried to make this one like your old one, like the design, the furniture and the colours, and sorry if it's not the best I tried so I hope you like i-"
"It's great Grandma" Clara said in a sarcastic tone. "Listen my dear.." Grandma said softly as she sat on the corner of the bed "I know, well I mean I don't know personally but- If you ever want to talk and if you ever feel like you need someone to talk to, i'm here" Clara looked at up into her grandmas eyes, saw something she had never seen before, a reaction of someone actually caring, and a genuine expression, the kind of "I'm sorry for you" look. "Thanks Grandma" Clara blurted out. She smiled back and walked out to let her unpack her bags.

"Hey!" Clara heard a yell from her door. "uh hello" "sorry if I startled you Clara" "yeah don't worry about it" Clara laughed. "I'm Audrey, your cousin, we're gonna be going to school together and we live in the same town so I thought we should meet" Audrey announced. "Wow I have a cousin?"  "Yeah you actually have 5, me, my brother and the other 3 who knows I think they are in America." "Wow I never knew, I'm sure Chase would've been happy to meet you too" Clara sighed. "Chase?" "Chase was my brother, he and my mother died in a fire last month"  "Oh I-" Audrey let out apologetically. "Don't worry I hear it all the time- "sorry for your loss" "sorry to bring it up" it's really fine don't worry" "Well i'm sure they were great people" Audrey reassured. "Dinner's ready!" a yell came from the floor below. Audrey and Clara walked down the stairs and got to their seats to sit for dinner. "Clara i see you've met your cousin Audrey, I hope you become great friends and you can firstly eat this nice meal together". Clara smiled and started eating her food. "You've got school tomorrow girls, so Audrey you should show Clara how to get to the bus stop from here tomorrow" "mhm I will" Audrey tried to say with her mouth full of food. Time went by and the family finished dinner and everyone got ready for bed, for Clara the days went by fast because she would zone out to the most random objects and rain and not focus on important surroundings, but maybe a new town could change her view.
