What if; Caleb was divergent too.

He spent his younger years thinking he would remain in abnegation, until he realised that he was naturally smart. As much as it pained him to say; he knew he would choose erudite. When his aptitude said divergent, their was no going back. He was too smart to remain in abnegation, and not brave enough to choose dauntless; even though choosing erudite was the bravest thing he could of did.

He craved knowledge so he already knew about divergence and didn't try to beat the simulations as he couldn't let jeanine find out he was different.
