Chapter 1.
Kyo POV
"Yeah, dad, I got it!" I joked for the hundredth time. My dad stood in the center of my room. He looked lost here. I only saw him look comfortable when he was in front of a group of his students. I clapped a hand on his shoulder. As I was about to say something, a voice spoke at the door.
"Am I interrupting?" It was a quiet voice, smooth but soft. There was something almost other worldly about it. Dad and I both turned. There standing in the doorway was a boy with grey hair, although he couldn't be much older than me. His pale skin and lighter grey eyes wouldn't cause too much attention, but the way he stood there. Shoulders back, head held high, he looked like someone important.
"I'm sorry if I am, but this is my assigned room." He pointed one slim finger at the room number. His other hand was on the handle of a black wheeled bag. Another bag was on his back.
"Oi, Yuki, where did you wander off too?" A musically delightful voice sang out. The man that stepped up behind my new roommate was so different than the teen before him. They had the same grey hair and eyes. That was where any similarities between the two ended.
Yuki, I was assuming was the teens name, was dressed very unnoticeably. He had on a dark blue button up with darker blue pants and shinned black shoes. The other, well he was dressed to be noticed. A red coat with gold threading throughout it, this was over a white pleasant like blouse that had a deep red cravat poking out the top. His pants were a deep rich black and they hugged his tall slim figure nicely.
"Um, no." Dad stated. "I was just going." He turned back to me, eyes wide I tried not to laugh. "Kyo, you have everything?"
"Yeah dad, I'm good, honest!" I smirked.
"Alright, I will see you in three weeks for parents weekend." We did our little handshake and he turned to the door. The teen stepped aside. Dad took one last look at me.
"Don't let him be too mean to you. He has the attitude to go with that red hair of his."
"Dad!" I cried. Laughing he walked away.
Another man appeared next to my new roommate. This one was dressed in an ill fitting dark suit. The tie was nearly undone, his dark hair looked like he had ran his hand through it countless times. He carried two bags, pulling a third.
"Ayame, you could have at least pulled this one!" He thrust the bag at the red coat guy. The man pulled his hand back.
"And break a nail, I just got them done!" He whined.
"Are they your parents?" I asked the teen.
"Oh God, no!" He cried walking into the room. "Unfortunately, that one…" He pointed to Ayame. "... is my older brother. The other is Shigure, his boyfriend. No, uh…" he paused. "They got engaged last night." Ayame breezed into the room holding his hand out before him. On it shimmered a large sparkling diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds on a thick gold band.
"Isn't it perfection!" He purred. The other two looked at each other with a knowing frown.
"Uh, yes, quite, uh large." I stuttered. Turning to the boy I pointed to where my stuff sat next to the bed on the right. "Do you mind if I take this one?" I asked. He glanced around the small sparse room.
"No, that's fine." He took his bags and went to the other bed.
"Oh, that is gaudy!" Ayame cried at seeing the beds. This from the guy with an enormous ring on his hand.
"Shigure just drop those there. We need to go shopping!" He cried.
"Ayame, I love you, but I haven't slept in nearly twenty hours!" Shigure cried. "We can shop tomorrow."
"But Yuki…" He gestured toward the bed. Yuki took hold of the man's shoulders pushing him out the door.
"Yuki is fine. Take him home and let him sleep!" He ordered.
"But…" Ayame tried again.
"Do you want me to call mom?" Yuki demanded. The tall man straightened.
"You didn't have to go that far!" He grabbed his brother in a tight hug. "I still love you!" He cooed. Shigure took Ayame's hand.
"See you in three weeks, Yuki." He waved, pulling the  statuesque figure out with him.  Yuki sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"So, they are kind of…"
"Stupid? Insane?" He offered looking up at me. I chuckled.
"I was going to say, intense."
"That too." He agreed.
"I am Yuki Sohma." He held out his hand.
"Reall?" I starred at him. He looked bewildered. I rushed to take his hand. "I'm Kyo Soma!" I snickered. "Wonder if we are related." I grinned. "I don't have much family, just dad and I. Well he isn't even my dad. He sort got stuck with me when I was six and my parents were killed." We talked as we took care of our things and made our beds. Eventually we found out that our last names were spelled differently.
A knock sounded on the door shortly after we plopped onto our beds, exhausted by the days events.
"Kyo?" A tiny high pitched voice asked. I leapt up.
"Tohru!" I cried opening the door. A beautiful brown haired doe-eyed girl stood there. I hugged her.
"Did you get settled?" I asked. Shyly she nodded. I pulled her inside.
"Yuki, this is my girlfriend, Tohru Honda, Tohru this is my roommate Yuki." I introduced them Yuki had wearily climbed to his feet. He held out his hand.
"It is my pleasure Miss Honda." He bowed over her hand pressing his lips to the back of her knuckles. Who was this guy? No one did stuff like that any more. Tohru giggled. She curtsied.
"My pleasure!" She giggled again,  blush coloring her cheeks.
"What is this, a gallant Prince?" Another voice called from the still open doorway.
"So different from the rude jester over here." The half snarl of the other person taking up the reminder of the doorway muttered. I glared at them.
"Look who you are calling a jester!" I sputtered.
"You have red hair wearing the ugliest yellow anyone could imagine. You look like a clown!" She was in my face now yelling at me.
"Here they go again." The dark haired vixen walked into the room. She came up to wrap her arms around Tohru's shoulders. She smiled at Yuki. "I am Tohru's best friend, Saki Hanajima." Once more the prince bowed and kissed the maidens hand.
"Don't pull that crap with me standing right here. I'm Tohur's best friend." The lanky blond strutted over to pull my girlfriend to her side. "Arisa Uotani." She didn't offer her hand. Yuki appeared taken aback by this. He bowed anyway.
"I am Yuki Sohma." He introduced himself.
"Our names are spelled differently!" I called before they could get whipped into a frenzy over it all.
"I'm hungry." Arisa stated. She took Tohru, moving toward the door.
"Kyo, Yuki, come with us!" Tohru reached out for us. I glanced at Yuki.
"Please?" I mouthed. His thin lips twitched slightly.
"Sure." He walked over to the door, holding it for everyone. Once outside we made our way down the long hall to the stairs. Walking down them, Saki began to discuss her year's project.
"We all have to do something original." She began. She eyed us. "I want to do a play." She grandly informed us.
We all groaned.  Everyone other than Yuki. We looked over at him.
"You will learn, she is a master manipulator. She is going to force us all to be in her play!" I hissed at him.
"I do NOT manipulate people. I just let them know how horrible their life will be if they don't help out." She thrust her nose in the air. Tohru and I giggled.
"What do you think you will write the play about?" Yuki asked as we walked through the late summer air.
"I have been reading up on the Chinese Zodiac. Did you know there is supposed to be a curse on it?" She looked all mysterious.
"No!" We answered.
"Yes, God and his party. The Rat was being mischievous, he told the cat the party was a different day, so the cat never showed up, right?" Yuki asked. Saki beamed at him.
"That's it exactly!" She cried. He smiled softly.
"I read a lot." He commented.
"I am going to title it the Curse of the Zodiac." She proclaimed grandly.
"Oh, how original!" I teased, dodging behind Arisa so she couldn't hit me. I laughed at her angry face.
"You shouldn't tease her so much." Tohru scolded me. We continued on to the dinning hall.
