“I will never forgive you for this!”
She screamed a long, high-pitched, insane scream. It was the kind of scream that one omitted when they could no longer differentiate between reality and illusion. But in her case, it was anger that caused it.
The middle-aged woman whose hair was prematurely streaked with gray cowered in the corner, her eyes wild. In the girl’s eyes, she was not a terrified victim, ready to defend herself if need be, but an evil witch who had bestowed misery on her time and again.
“You will regret this,” the woman hissed to the knife the girl held in her trembling hands.
“I have nothing to regret! Say goodbye, witch!”
Half sobbing and blinded by her own tears, the girl let out another scream and swung the knife high above her head.
Time slowed. For a moment, the two people were caught in an animated moment of suspense. The knife, high above the girl’s head, about to commit an unforgivable act; the girl, whose pain and suffering had pushed her to her limit; and the woman, whose life was about to end at her daughter’s hands but would not do anything to stop it.
Then it was over, and the knife’s point pierced the woman’s chest. As the woman cried out and slumped forward, the knife went in again. Then a third time.
The girl was now sobbing uncontrollably. She stared at the blood-soaked knife like she saw it for the first time. She realized what she had done, and that her suffering was far from over.
Uttering a cry of pure grief, pain and fury, she raised her arm and flung the dagger out of the window. Far, far away. Then, without a backward glance, she ran out of the house and up the staircase next to it. Up, up, up to the highest level of the building. Thoughts pounded through her head with every step.
I have suffered enough. Too much pain. Enough…enough…this is enough…no more…no more…no more…
The girl heaved herself onto the parapet overlooking the city. She just sat there, staring at the vast landscape of buildings and roads. In the past, she would think the lights were pretty, and the moving cars were fascinating, but not any more. That was a long time ago. A very, very long time ago. Tonight, they looked cold and imposing, like they were mocking her.
Taking a deep breath, the girl turned and leaned backwards, falling off the parapet.
She was flying. Spreading her arms, she welcomed the wind, letting it blow all her pain and anger away. Three seconds later, what was left of her pain ended.
The police found her three hours later. They knew that she committed suicide because she no longer felt she could control her life. But what they did not know was this girl’s dying wish: to come back to this world and haunt everyone to death.
She would not let go until she won. She would get her revenge.
She kept busy.
Ten years later, she got her wish.
It was over.
