Chapter 1:
"Not this again." Scyler groaned as he dropped the empty containers from the sudden start of rumbling. He scoffed, knowing that if he wanted to do this correctly he'd have to wait until that idiot finished his construction for the day.
William Ned Air was like all of the other crappy businessmen trying to take over the town of Brickbrook. Scyler himself being a corrupt businessman knew exactly how these blabbering idiots worked. They build gimmicks in the oh so glorious, magical town of Brickbrook hoping to get a taste of all the money coming in after the globally known battle that had taken place 8 years ago. He was new to town but he probably wouldn't stick around for long; he isn't gonna get the business opportunity he thinks he's getting.
Scyler goes back up to the main lobby, not bothering to continue research in his secluded lab. As he walks out past the main desk, he passes Melanie, the new apprentice he had just hired quite recently to replace the unfortunately terrible former one. As he passes he notices she's texting her wife, which he had no problem with since there aren't exactly lots of people signing up to work for him. Scyler walked through the creaky automatic doors and onto the small sidewalk by a slightly less narrow road that was not meant for cars to tread.
He glances at the construction, but immediately averts his gaze when he makes eye contact with the man himself. He turns to the left instead, heading towards Leon's house, but it was already a bit too late.
"Excuse me, sir! Are you perhaps a local of this town?"
Scyler sighed and turned back, meeting eyes with the man who asked the question. Although his voice was kinder with the question, the arrogance in his voice was like a pepper spray to the ears for Scyler, who was sick and tired of all of these outsiders trying to be smart with him.
In his late 40s to early 50s, the man was wearing an emerald green trench coat with a matching top hat and had a long red beard riddled with white hairs, and somehow neat, yet messy hair to accompany it all. His face was long and looked like he was born to scam the naive, yet he had eyes that didn't fit his appearance; they looked too kind to be on the face of someone like him.
"Uhhhh, yeah..." Scyler yapped out, his usual awkwardness seeping through his voice "Whya askin'?"
"Well young man, I was wondering if you would like-"
"Nope, not interested"
William's mouth was kept ajar from the sudden refusal, his eyebrows immediately scrunching together. Scyler turns back to get back on route but is startled when he feels a hand on his shoulder. He whips around and sees the man with an offended look on his face and knows he's about to get a whole entitled speech that'll waste his time.
"Excuse me young man do you have any idea who you're speaking to?" William said, trying to keep a happy persona but was noticeably agitated by Scyler's disrespect.
"Mmm, kinda but... eh" Scyler replied sucking on his teeth, already over the starting conversation.
"My name is William N. Air, I am the founder an-"
"Listen, Airhead. I don't know who you think you are," Scyler cuts in yet again "But if you're here to do business in MY town where I was the only big corporation, I have no interest in speaking to you."
William scoffed while chuckling "Oh, little man upset the big guys are taking over?" he said smugly, making Scyler cringe. Before he could comment the newcomer asks another question.
"Listen, kid, d'ya know where the mayor's house is. I met with him before but I needa discuss some more plans with him." William said, completely dropping the nice act after noticing Scyler's bitter feelings towards him.
Scyler sighs knowing that Leon wouldn't find it funny if a rich guy is angry with this small town. He bites the inside of his cheek before answering, eyes rolling as he did.
"Yeah, just follow me."
The walk to Leon's house was a quick 2 minutes, so the silence wasn't too deadly. They pass a few different buildings, a house or two, the locked up, abandoned hospital, the old "capital building" where Bastian lived now behind said hospital, and his store, Visser's, was right next to it. Visser's was the only store in town since the once unknown town just relied on trade and the local farm for all their needs
.
They see the house, only the front wall was visible with two windows on each side of the door, white curtains visible from the outside when compared to the Rosewood exterior. Next to the house was a stable with three horses inside, alongside an area for perching for the four free-flying pet birds that Leon and Flori owned.
To their left was a freshly built playground for the new arriving children who came with their parents to marvel at the town's Tree of Life and to their right was the small town's main farm, the farm Melanie previously watched over but now was guarded by a small wooden fence and was watched over by the two house owners.
Scyler turns to William and nods his head towards the house, not wanting to break the silence to hear the man's grumbly voice. William walks over with an annoying amount of confidence and knocks on the door, already putting on his fake smile. There's a long pause before William knocks again, Scyler glimpses through the window to see if anyone's coming.
The third round of knocks.
William frowns and turns to Scyler, who had been peering over his shoulder from a distance.
"Did you lead me to this house to fool me or something kid? I have some serious deals to propose and you performing tricks isn-"
"Calm down weirdo, I'm pretty sure they're just not home"
William huffed and scattered his eyes to all the places nearby, probably wondering where the hell the two heads of a tiny town could disappear to. Knowing that he had nothing to do back at the lab with all the noise, Scyler painfully decided he has to wait for the couple's return so he could bother the only people who bother listening to him, maybe even being able to get them to kick this walking noise complaint out of town.
