I took off running as soon as I heard the yell leave Principal Saunders's mouth. I smiled to myself as I sprinted past the students of Hamilton High School. All of whom were giving me questioning looks or smiles knowing I was up to my latest prank.
Some think I'm a delinquent but I'm really nothing close to that. I'm just a spoiled girl looking for Daddy's attention, and I always get it with "crimes" like these.
I dash into my third period class and tried to look natural as I took my seat next to my best friend, Ava Rogers. Like me, Ava has long blonde hair and she is a cheerleader too. She has soft brown eyes and she's a little shorter than me, about 5'6". She gave me a devilish smile, knowing what I just did.
"You should have seen his face!" I tell her breathlessly, still gasping from my mad dash away from the scene of the crime. She laughs and twirls her pencil around her finger. Her hand hovers over the pre-calc problems she was solving. Ava and I are really smart, like, straight A students, which most people find funny since we're blonde.
"Did it look as good as the librarian when you put your hamster in her purse?" She asked me, referring to the time I put my hamster, Mr. Pickles, in Mrs. Jezzman's Coach purse and her face was priceless.
"Hey, I was talking maybe laugh worthy, but definitely not award winning like Mrs. J's face!" I reply, and we both burst out laughing again.
Our moment is short lived, though, because a very red, very angry, very wet looking Mr. Saunders walked into my math class. His narrow, beady eyes dart around the room looking for someone. His gaze finally settles on me and he gives me a evil smirk.
"Miss Timmons, if you would kindly follow me please." He said. It was in his contract to play nice, but I knew as well as the next person that he wished he could rip my head off.
I mock soluted him and marched from my seat to the door, earning giggles from around the room. Mr. Saunders glowereed at me but didn't say anything, instead he turned and walked out the door. I marched after him and down the hall to his office, the one that was currently soaking wet.
I take a seat in the chair I usually sit in when I'm here, which proves I'm here a lot. I kick my feet up onto the coffee table and sigh with fake delight, as if I'm relaxing on my couch at home and not in the principal's office. Mr. Saunders takes a seat at his desk and pulls out my ridiculously big folder. It's stuffed with records of my previous pranks around the school.
"So... Water balloons that were self-launched when I triggered them by opening the door. Soaking me and my expensive suit." He says formally. I scoff at the "expensive suit" part only because his suits always have stains on them (whether they were from my pranks or his own faults) and his ties were very gaudy and clashing.
"You don't know it was me. And they were triggered by the trip wire not when you opened the door." I reply snidely. He sighs and shakes his head.
"Why, Zoe? That's the only thing I want to know, is why?" He asks, looking at me with pity.
"We can't all get what we want, can we?" I bite out. He winces but pulls the familiar pink slip out from a drawer.
"I'm afraid I'm going to have to give you detention. Two weeks should do it." He says, filling in the detention slip with my name, homeroom, and a description of my infraction.
"Two weeks!" I pretend to be mad and he nods. I could really care less, this will totally get Dad's attention. It might even make him come home just to talk some sense into me.
He hands me the slip which has the dates of which I will serve my time. Starting today, great, the sooner the better!
I pretend to stomp out of his office without looking to happy. I practically skip to class and when I arrive, my teacher frowns but doesn't say anything. I take my seat next to Ava again and wave the detention slip in her face. She's in on my plan and she knows what I'm trying to do so she smiles.
Its been a good day.
