New York
The rain was pouring in full force. The white-collar men in suits were holding their leather bags against their heads, trying to protect themselves from the rain. Those who escaped the rain were the lucky ones.
I took a sip from the black coffee glass and put it back on the table. The rain caught me an hour ago and the black suit I was wearing was wet. I had to take off my tie, put it in the bag on the floor of the table, and unbutton two of the top buttons of my white shirt and relax.
One of the young waiters working in the cafe came towards one of the tables in the corner where I was sitting.
- Sir, the woman on the phone asked.
-I do not understand
- The woman across the street asked if you were here. And she asked me to deliver the phone to you.
-Thank you
and the young waitress handed me the phone in her hand.
-Yes im listening.
-I was wondering about you Sir, when Mr. Kim didn't answer my calls and texts.
-I'm fine right now Sara, there's nothing to worry about.
- Sir, will you come to the company? I wanted to remind you that you have a meeting with your investor partners at noon.
- Postpone the appointment to another day, Sara. I'll be at the company in half an hour.
-Yes, sir
I hung up on Sara's face and handed it back to the young woman wearing the burgundy apron that read "Benny's Caffee."
-Would you like me to freshen up your coffee, Mr. Kim?
-Yeah, that's fine.
While the young waiter was going to take back the empty coffee cup on the table, he called out to the woman.
-Well, I have to go out for another coffee. The young waiter said thank you for the coffee again and went to deal with the other customers.
Sara had missed calls and texts when I wanted to pick up my phone on the desk and check my emails. The audio sign on the top of the phone was crossed out. So it was muted.
When I looked at the square clock on the opposite wall, it showed 11:45. The morning meeting at the company should have just ended. I was late for the meeting, as usual.
All of the waiters around were taking care of other customers. I took the wallet from the inside of the wet jacket and left $100 on the table and stood up from the table. As soon as I stepped out of the cafe, it was raining again. However, it wasn't like a few hours ago.
I was walking on the sidewalk among the giants of world-famous banks and investment companies on Wall Street. The crisis in 2008 dealt a great blow to the companies. In fact, most investor companies even came to the point of bankruptcy.
Williams Investment Company was one of them. The Williams Companies where I just had coffee was two blocks down the road. The exterior of the building was of old-style typical American architecture. It was a 15-story building and was old.
When I entered the entrance door of the Williams Company, people were working between the screens in the large hall. They were following the activity in the world stock markets from the computers in front of them. Some of them were talking to investors on the phones. There were nearly 700 employees in the company. Each of them made me richer 24/7. They were thinking about what to do.
I walked through the wide corridor of the company and started to climb the stairs right next to the elevator one by one. My office in the company was on the second floor. As I was climbing the stairs, a sparse-haired, slightly fat and bearded youth was descending the stairs. For a moment, I saw the man for the first time in the company. He must have been one of the new slaves. .
As soon as I entered the room, I had to change my soaked shirt and trousers first. I had no intention of getting sick any time soon.
Spare clothes were always ready in a corner of the closet. I had to take off the packaged dress with the black suit and put it on immediately. I didn't want someone at the company to see me like that.
While tying the tie on the shirt, when I looked out the glass window and looked out at the street, right next to the ATM, a homeless man with dirty, unkempt hair was eating the food from the garbage he had collected in the garbage container. It really wasn't a pleasing sight.
When people passed by such homeless men on the street, they thought to themselves as "Poor Man". An elegantly dressed woman passing by the street bent down and handed him some money. The old man was pitiful. However, I had no pity for this man. they had the image.
As I was about to tie the tie and sit on my leather sofa table, my assistant Sara, with her red soul and full breasts, came in.
He slowly left the documents in his hand towards my desk and took a step back. He waited for a moment for my eyes to meet and speak. However, when he did not speak, Sara broke in.
- Mr. Kim, the meeting reports and the documents that need to be signed are in the file, I also canceled all your appointments for today.
I picked up one of the blue pencils on the wooden table and, without reading the paperwork that had to be signed, signed the bottom and handed it back to Sara.
-Sara, I have to go, we'll review the reports at a suitable time. I'm tired and I feel like I'm going to be sick.
-Do you want me to call Alfred?
-No no, I'm not going home anyway, Sara. If Alfred calls you, tell him you can't come tonight. When he can't reach me, he waits all night in curiosity Alfred
Sara was looking at me worriedly with her black eyes behind her black glasses, and I knew that look.
- Got it, Mr. Kim.
-Remember, if there is a problem at the company, you are the authorized person, Sara. There will be some wet clothes in the closet over there, and send them to be dry-cleaned.
