Calling Maria

Bruno was back at work while you were sitting in the house with nothing to do. The dream you had a few days ago riled you up, and you didn't sleep much.

   ' Maybe I should talk to a therapist about it. I wonder if Dr. Samal would talk to me. '

You grabbed your cellphone and dialed her number. You placed the phone on your ear and listened to the ringing of the phone. Then, someone did pick up, but it wasn't Dr. Samal.

   " Hello, this is the WayWard Psychologist building. How can I help you? "

   " Hi, I'm an old friend of Dr. Samal. I was wondering if she was in? "

   " I'm sorry, what was your name? "

   " Y/n. "

   " Well, Y/n Dr. Samal passed away a year ago. I'm sorry. "

   ' What? How could she passaway? She was so young and pretty. '

   " What happened? "

   " I'm not sure. The cops couldn't understand how she died, but they said it was something internal. Her body was weakening or something. If that is all I must go, we have a lot of patients today. Goodbye. "

The lady on the other end of the phone hung up, leaving you to set your phone down on the couch.

   " She looked so healthy though. And she was young. Bruno wouldn't have the case file because he isn't in that district. Maybe he has a friend who's over there that could give him the file. There's no way she could have died from health issues. She looked fine. " You told yourself.

Your eyes started drooping, and your body was feeling tired from the stale atmosphere. You didn't really have any friends in Linden, so there was nothing to do with anyone. Bruno was really the only person you had, and he had work.

   ' I should call Maria. '

You took your phone in your hands again and dialed Maria's number. The ringing tone sounded, and it didn't take any more than two rings before Maria picked up.

   " Hey, Y/n. How's Linden treating you? "

   " Linden's treating me as best as it could. There's really nothing to do since I don't have any friends here. "

   " What about Bruno? "

   " Well, Bruno's at work and we're not exactly friends anymore. . .I think. "

   " Why? Did you two get into a fight or somethin'? "

   " No, we didn't get into a fight. "

   " Then what happened? "

   " We went on a date a few days ago. "

   " What!? Why didn't you call me sooner!? Wow! You should have told me this on the day it happened! "

   " Well, we made it an all-day thing! We spent the day together for the date and then we went to sleep and I forgot. "

   " You slept with him!? "

   " Not in the inappropriate way you're thinking! We just watched a movie and then fell asleep on the couch, that's all. "

   " Dang Y/n, I was wondering when you two would get together. You would always call him and I swear it was like you two were already dating. "

   " I did not! "

   " Oh, really? If you look at your list of calls you'll find his name on the list more than anyone else's. "

   " Because we've been friends for a long time and a long time ago something happened in town and people started dying. I helped him try to figure out what it was and we stayed friends ever since that terrible incident happened. Now. . .we're moving beyond friend boundaries. "

The Phantom Killer Case was the name given to the case that happened years ago. It was the name Bruno gave it. No one else knew that it was really Ji-Young, a dream demon, that killed everyone. Bruno called it 'phantom' because, to the world, no one knew who killed the people. There were no physical injuries or internal injuries, so they didn't know what to classify the killings as. And with no physical killer, it was up to Bruno to fix the files. The only ones who knew the truth were you and Bruno. Your mother thought it was all a part of her mind going insane and everyone else who knew about it was dead. To the world, it was The Phantom Killer Case, but to you and Bruno, it was the work of a killing dream demon.

   " What ever happened? Has the killer ever been found? What about suspects? "

   " You know why they call it 'phantom' don't you? They could never find fingerprints, or any killer. "

   " I thought they called it the phantom case because there were no wound marks or internal damage to the victim's bodies. "

   " That's also another reason. Everything was a mystery. Even the killer. "

   " And you were part of the investigation with Bruno right? "

   " Yeah, we were. I've told you this before. "

   " I know, but I'm just trying to remember it all. What did you do during the case? You didn't exactly work with the police force fully. "

   " Bruno allowed me to help figure it out and when we knew who his next target was we raced there to save them, but we were too late and before we could catch the killer, he ran off. He's never been found and he's been dormant since then. "

   " Wow, that's right. You guys found him, but he was too swift and got away. "

   " Yeah. "

   " Well, it's normal for those who had gotten into a traumatic situation to stay together. Even to get married. The statistics are high. "

   " Are you telling me that we're going to get married? "

   " Yes, that's what I'm saying. "

   " Y/n, it was just a dream. You really need to get some sleep and relax. Get a face mask, a bath bomb, and jump in a warm bath and relax. Then slip into bed and close your eyes. Trust me, that's what helps me get to sleep or relax when I'm feeling on edge. "

   " You should. I've got to go, I need to clean the sorority house at some point today. "

   " You have fun going through all of that. "

You hung up the phone and thought about her idea for a moment. You thought that it wouldn't be harmful to try and relax. But you wouldn't do it until later. You still planned on trying to make dinner for you and Bruno.
