Eternity. A blessing. A curse. A profanity. It seems great, to live forever... maybe not even to be alive. After all, it is the nothingness, the darkness in the dead of night we all fear. It grips at our minds, a concept so incomprehensible because it is outside our very imaginations. How is it we cannot imagine what nothingness is, when we feel it before we are even brought into this world? We can imagine a kiss we've never had, what something or someone smells like.

Eternity is great. Until you are stuck with it...

It isn't all it's chalked up to be. After a time, maybe, not within the first few hundred or thousand years...but eventually? You become consumed by a pit of despair so deep you want nothing but to drift into that nothingness. It drives you mad; you want the one thing you can never have, there is no end, no relief.

Eternity is worse than any hell, it rips away everything you once saw value in. When one has lived through everything, they're not looking towards the next dawn but towards the next time they get to close their eyes, let it all fade...

But it is that pain that keeps me sane, as much as the endlessness of it all should lead to the opposite. My story is long, plagued with lust, love, rage, and greed. I lost everything.

Yet.

I gained everything...

So here I am, blue, green, purple, gray, white, the colors swirl around me as I look down at the ring on my finger, twisting it so the stone is perfectly centered on my finger. How long has it been? How long have I been sitting here, waiting? Waiting for what? I don't even know anymore. I could remember every moment that got me here. Every loss, every love, every life. Every kiss, every shout, every word.

Yet I couldn't remember why I was sitting here in the dark, lost in my own thoughts as the wind ruffled my hair. A small croon sounded as claws gripped my back, climbing up. A small, reddish brown dragon nuzzled my jaw with his head, perhaps looking through my past would help.

Let me tell you a story...

My story.
