Chapter 1 Welcome To Genoa

Luca POV

I looked up to the cloudy sky as I leaned outside of the train, the sun hiding behind big fluffy clouds. As a tunnel approached I pulled myself back up into the train carriage.

As I walked back in a felt an awkward chill in the air. Then I noticed everyone on my right was staring at me. I just smiled and waved politely while chuckling.

I rattled my body back and forth drying myself off then sat down next to Giulia.

"I'm so excited. I can't wait to get there" I said while hopping up and down on my seat.

"I'm glad you're happy" she said to me. "Honestly I was kinda worried you might not come because you would be leaving Alberto behind" she continued.

I looked down to my lap and said "Yeah, I'm gonna miss him. All of them".

"Hey" she said while putting her hand on my shoulder. "We can see them next summer. And you're gonna write letters to each other so I'm sure you'll be fine".

I chuckled "Thanks Giulia" I said as we hugged each other.

After we stopped hugging I sat there swinging my feet back and forth. "So when are we gonna get there?" I asked.

"Oh, we should get there in the evening".

"Oh ok. So what should we do while we wait?".

"Well, we could play eye spy if you want to".

"Uh, what's eye spy?".

She proceeded to explain the rules of eye spy to me and then we played it for a while until we reached Genoa.

"Come on Luca, we're here" Giulia said while grabbing my wrist and pulling me along. She leads me off the train and out of the train station into Genoa.

We stopped outside of the train station and I soaked in my surroundings. There were huge buildings that felt 10x bigger than the ones in Portorosso. There were hundreds of Vespas and other metal creatures moving around. There was so much for my eyes to focus on I couldn't choose what to look at.

Giulia gazed over at me and said "Come on Luca, we can go sightseeing later. We have to go to my Mums place before she gets worried".

(Yes I spell it Mum shut up)

"So do you have any friends at school?" I asked while we were walking.

"Oh yeah I have this one friend, her name is Carol. She's an exchange student from Britain, which is another country".

"What's a country?" I asked.

"Oh you'll learn about it in school, oh we're almost here. Just around this corner"

She took me to a tall building with lots of windows. She turned around and started to explain that what I was looking at was an apartment and that she and her Mum lived in it.

"Wow, that so cool that you live all the way up there" I said pointing at the building.

"Yeah I guess it is. Come on let's head inside". As we walked up to her apartment she was waving and saying hi to everyone we walked past.

"Hello Miss Rossi, Evening Mrs Puddu, Hi Mr Greco".

As we walked passed they would just smile at me or completely ignore me. No one ever talked to me which I didn't really mind. The people who did smile at me I would just chuckle awkwardly and wave back.

We finally reached the third floor and knocked on a door saying 3B.

A young lady that looked like an older version of Giulia opened the door. She was wearing a light yellow wool shirt with darker yellow stripes and a blue apron with splotches of colours dotted around it.

"Hi honey" the lady said while leaning into hug Giulia.

"Hey Mum" Giulia replied while embracing her Mother.

They hugged for about 2 or 3 seconds then they let go of each other and the lady turned over to me.

"You must be Luca, it's nice to meet you" she said as she extended our her hand.

"My name is Liliana, I'm Giulia's Mum and the art teacher at her school" she said while shaking my hand.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Mrs Liliana".

"Miss actually" she said to me.

"Oh, but I thought-".

She interrupted me saying "I know it's confusing but I just prefer Miss".

"Oh ok. Nice to meet you Miss Liliana".

She smiled at me a let us both in.

"Where's Lupo?" Giulia asked.

"Oh he's at the dog groomer, he'll be back tonight". Giulia nodded seeming to look a little disappointed.

Giulia and Liliana proceeded to show me around their apartment. Showing me the bathroom, kitchen and all the bedrooms including the guest room which is where I was sleeping.

I dragged my suitcase into my new room and laid it on the bed while Liliana prepared dinner.

Giulia came into my room and sat on my bed next to me. "You ok" she asked.

"Yeah, it's just this is such a new world and I don't know if I'm gonna fit in" I replied.

"Hey Luca, you're gonna be fine. You just need to believe in yourself".

"Yeah, you're right".

"Dinners ready" we heard Liliana say from the kitchen. We both got off my new bed and walked over to the dining table.

"Voila, my famous Liliana Lasagne. Dig in" I instinctively went to grab it with my hands but Giulia nudged my arm and gestured to the fork.

I chuckled awkwardly and picked up my fork. The lasagne was delicious. It was like one of the best things on the planet.

(Sorry I couldn't help myself, anyways on with the show)

We didn't talk about much. Mainly about how Giulia's summer was and how she finally won the race. She didn't talk to me much which makes sense. She hadn't seen Giulia the whole summer.

After dinner Giulia came up to me and said "Come with me. I wanna show you something".

She took me to the top of the building where there was a beautiful view of the city. She pointed out her favourite parts of the city like the lighthouse.

We stood there for a while leaning on the railing until I decided to go inside and write my first letter to everyone back home. With some help from Giulia

Dear Mum, Dad and Alberto

I just got to the city, by the time you read this letter it might be a little while ago though. I just had dinner with Giulia's Mum Liliana and I really enjoyed it. I can't wait for school to start and for my new adventure to unfold.

Although I do miss you guys a lot. I really wish you guys could come and see the world with me. It's really beautiful here and I think you all would like it.

I really hope you enjoyed. I really love this movie and think I wrote the story pretty well and am quite proud of it. I also am going to write these little letters at the end of each chapter as a little recap. Luv you all and have a good
