The next month flies by. Cedric and I just seem to go from strength to strength. It's been a long time since I've felt this loved and I know its wrong to brag but I truly can't believe my luck. Everything has just been so perfect! I have noticed that I'm starting to see him a little less than before but I have to remind myself not to neglect the fact that Cedric's still busy trying to work out the clue for the second task. On another note, I've been spending much more time with my friends, particularly Daphne and Draco. Its nice to be like this with Draco again. No juvenile feelings getting in the way of us just enjoying each other's company. I'd forgotten just how wonderful he is as a friend and the way that we just seem to get each other. However, this good period of my life was disrupted when I received a letter from Mother last week.
My dearest Francesca,
I'm terribly sorry to have to communicate such news to you in a letter.
Your Grandmother has fallen ill.
She has requested your presence in the Manor at the earliest convenience.
I have already spoken to your Headmaster and we have come to an agreement.
I will arrive this Sunday at 11am to accompany you home.
All my love,
Mother
I read the letter once more before folding it back up and placing it in my coat pocket. Checking my watch, I see that the time is 10:58am. I fiddle a little with my necklace before dropping my hands to my side. Grandmother's been sick before but never to the point where I've been pulled out of school. I suppose she's getting older and it's only natural but I've always seen Grandmother's life as a constant in mine. The thought alone that she could be gone soon is not only unbearable but unimaginable too.
"There you are, my love." Mother chirps as she rushes over to me. Before I know it I'm being swept into a tight hug and kisses are being planted on my forehead. "I'm so glad you're safe."
"Why wouldn't I be?" I ask, returning the embrace.
Mother breaks away and gives me a weak smile, "No reason, darling. We'd better get going now."
Just as we're heading leaving, I see Daphne, Draco and Theó rounding the corner. They're deep in conversation about the possibility of Snape and Madam Pince having an affair and I immediately feel my cheeks flush a bright scarlet colour in embarrassment. I can only hope Mother doesn't hear their speculation.
"Mrs Monet!" Daphne shouts, clearly surprised to see my Mother.
"Hello Daphne!" She replies, pulling my closest friend into a warm embrace. Mother asks after Daphne and Theó's families before stopping. Her eyes rests on the icy haired boy who seems to be trying to hide behind a group of 1st years. "My Godrick! Draco Malfoy is that you?" Draco reluctantly moves closer and nods his head in response. Mother then bombards him with comments about how 'dashing' and 'grown up' he looks. Even I'm startling to feel uncomfortable.
