Heavy Mortal Hopes

For the first time, my alarm clock woke me up and I stretched in my bed, saying good morning to Trevor and sighing over the, again, empty bed. In the bathroom I met Bloom, who was stressfully brushing her teeth and Aisha, rolling her eyes at her. "Hey, what's going on? Are we late?", I asked, while trying to put my hair where it belonged. "Bloom had a vision yesterday. She thinks she saw the fairy who left her in the human world", Aisha explained and the Fire Fairy stated: "I didn't think I saw her; I saw her. The memory is fading, we have to rush. Maybe she went to Alfea then she would be on a picture." "What does she look like?", I asked, intending to help. Bloom scratched her head. "Old. Hair in a bun or maybe no hair. Light eyes. I don't know."

Moments later, we were wandering through the hallways, stopping at every wall of pictures and searching for the lady. "Can we not do this again?", Aisha begged, but Bloom kept looking at the black and white photos. "There just are still a few maybes. I know it's hard to see what someone's gonna look like when they're old, but..." She pointed at a woman. "See, if I squint my eyes and tilt my head, this Farrah Fawcett one is a dead ringer." Aisha wasn't convinced and shook her head. "There are a lot of fairies in the Otherworld, Bloom." "Well, you said the most powerful ones come through Alfea, right?", Bloom exclaimed and I nodded, while sipping my tea. "Technically, Alfea looks for magic potential when they admit fairies, but, yes, powerful fairies come through the school." "Well, this woman embedded a memory in my head 16 years ago. That seems pretty powerful", the redhead argued, but Aisha disagreed. "What else could it be?", Bloom commented and I looked at Aisha. "This fairy definitely was very powerful, Aisha. Maybe there is a list of the best students", I reasoned and Bloom nodded intensively at me. Aisha squinted her eyes. "I just don't want you to get your hopes up", she said calmly and we looked at her in disbelief. Even if she had a point and was honest, she shouldn't give up too soon. Bloom noticed that too. "The night I opened myself up to magic, I got a memory." "Which means, the more you improve your magic, the more memories you will get", I puzzled, Bloom nodding, Aisha shook her head. Now the Fire Fairy got serious. "She said "Find me", Aisha. She put me there for a reason. I know she's too old to be my mom, but one of them at least has to know who she is." A convinced sigh escaped the Water Fairy and she requested to ask Terra about her dad's yearbooks. "After class", I noted and looked at my watch. "We are now officially late."

When we entered the long, green and filled room, the headmistress was already there. Fortunately, she didn't admonish us and we sat down, I chose the seat next to the teacher's pet from the stone circle. She introduced herself as Beatrix and called me "Miss Fog". Probably because of the incidence, but I didn't want to give her satisfaction and focused on the lesson. Today we would, of course, learn how to focus on our magic and improve our concentration on it. However, Beatrix wasn't focused. "So, you're a Weather Fairy", she asked and narrowed her eyes, looking at my hands which I hovered over a small bronze bowl and I nodded. "You're very powerful, huh?", she digged. "But you can't control it." Trying to keep my calm, I answered. "Maybe if you wouldn't talk, I could." "Isn't anger your source? Maybe if I keep picking on you your power will come", she grinned and her eyes blinked. Nothing appeared in my hands, but I felt my lungs cramping under her words and exhaled sharply. "What's your power again? Air?", I turned to her and a second later lightning bolts connected her fingers. "I wouldn't say, I'm an expert, but I'm pretty neat at my magic", she commented proudly and smirked. To be honest, that attitude was kind of tempting, but I felt how I lost some brain cells, listening to her. Miss Dowling was on her way to us and Bloom just enlightened a fire. Now it was Beatrix turn and the headmistress was impressed. She then turned to me. "Focus on what you want to make. Rain, sun, wind", she explained and I focused on happy thoughts. She already saw the dark, now let's make light. I caught Aisha's eye, breathed in calmly and when I breathed out there was a small sun flying between my hands. "Good job", Ms Dowling agreed and Aisha showed thumbs up. "Yes", I whispered and the light went brighter. Finally, I had some motivation and tried to turn the light into a cloud. In the corner of my eye, I saw the Air Fairy playing on her phone and rolled my eyes. The sun darkened due to the fog covering it now, and eventually disappeared. Suddenly there was a loud splash in front of me, turning the fog in a quick thunderbolt, burning the bottom of my bowl. Aisha was covered in water when she got up and noted that she went for a swim. Bloom and Beatrix exchanged strange looks, while I packed my things.
