Chapter 1 - Prologue

Hello, everyone! Here's a Draco/Luna fanfiction. An odd pairing, yes, but that's what makes it exciting. I had a lot of fun writing this story. I wrote it several years ago, I'm just posting it on this site now. I hope you have fun reading it! =)

Setting: Malfoy Manor, before the Battle of Hogwarts, winter, 1997

Draco sat in his usual armchair in his spacious, yet gloomy living room in Malfoy Manor. He had been staring at the dark, empty fireplace, brows furrowed, and hands clutching the arms of the chair for about an hour.

He knew why the Dark Lord chose him—his father's mistake. While his father paid for it in Azkaban, Draco had to pay for it by being branded with the Dark Mark and finding any way possible to murder an innocent man. The Dark Lord thought he was capable of doing it. Was he? He didn't want to murder another person... no one did, aside from the Dark Lord. He just had to see it as a way to prove himself as a competent member of the Malfoy family, and that he could accomplish something great. That something great was utterly horrible, but great nonetheless.

Draco turned his head slightly at the noise of voices coming from the manor's entryway. Curious, he stood up and walked over and noticed his aunt Bellatrix, the werewolf Death Eater Fenrir Greyback, and two other Death Eaters. Greyback was carrying a girl with long wavy blonde hair, about the color of his own, tied together with a piece of fabric. His lips pressed together when he saw the girl's face. She was his classmate Luna Lovegood, a friend of Harry Potter's.

Why Luna Lovegood? Draco momentarily thought as he pushed his brows together, thinking what they could want with that loony girl, and what she did to deserve being taken by Death Eaters. He had never met her, but he had seen her at school. She was as innocent as a puppy. Maybe it had something to do with her father. Xenophilius Lovegood wasn't liked by a lot of people, including Lucius Malfoy.

Draco huffed. He shouldn't think about it too much. He had learned to just let the other Death Eaters be as they went about their business. In his house. The thought made his blood boil and stomach twist.

He sat in his chair and stared at the unlit fireplace. His curiosity itched at him. What were they going to do to Luna Lovegood?
