"I'm so sorry, Courtney." The nurse says, standing in the shadows. I can feel a lack of sympathy in her voice.

"We tried everything, we really did--"

"Why? What happened?!" I say.

"Your mom.... She didn't make it...."

"W-what? No! It can't... No...."

"We had to pull the plugs at some point and maybe that was today."

"No, no, no, no...."

"We're so sorry." The nurse replies, coldly.

"NO YOU'RE NOT! STOP LYING! STOP!" I cry hysterically, my hands in my hair, feeling the need to tear them apart.

"Oh, dearie... Lying's what I've always done." The nurse smirks and steps out from the shadows.

It's Celine.

"You..." I attempt to lunge towards her but my feet are planted onto the ground. I'm completely immobilized. I can't move.

"Here's a fact for you. I killed her. She deserved what she got."

"Celine, no,"

"Just like you deserve what you'll get."

She slowly makes her way towards me an I try to back away only to remember that I can't move my legs. I turn my head around and see Anthony.

"H-help me..." I try to speak but no sound comes out.

Anthony only glares at me.

"Kill her."

The walls begin to close in. My breathing quickens and soon enough, everything goes dark.

I wake up in a panic, breathing rapidly. I feel a gust of cold wind run through my hair. The window's open.

I look beside me and see a blue sticky note, Anthony's messy writing scrawled over it:

Courtney,

Thank you for rescuing me and allowing me to spend the night. Sorry, I had to leave early or my mom would get worried.

- Anthony

"Well, that explains the open window." I mutter to myself and shiver. I slowly get up to close the window.

As I do, I see a woman with blonde hair close her car door and walk towards the front door. I scowl and run downstairs. I reach the door and open it violently.

"What do you want?" I grit through my teeth.

Celine eyes me up and down and frowns. As if she's never seen a bed-head and polar bear slippers before!

"I just came to check up on Dad." she responds, cooly.

"Well, last time that happened, Mom ended up in a coma."

"Look, I just wanted to talk. Let me in, will you?"

"And what exactly makes you think I will?" I retort. She stares at me in silence, then looks at her feet.

"Exactly. Goodbye." I say and I begin to slam the door on her when she interrupts.

"Wait, wait!" She yells. I open the door a bit.

"What now?" I reply, bitterly.

"I-if you won't listen to me... Well, uhm..."

"Hurry up, I haven't got all day!"

"Listen to me." A deep voice says from behind her. Before I can say anything, Chase Olgan lets himself in, Celine following behind him.

"Chase-" I start but he brings up his hand to shush me.

"I know what you're thinking, but please listen to me."

"And what exactly makes you think I'll listen to anything you say, huh?!" I can feel the anger rising in my voice.

"Courtney, please,"

"Oh yeah, and it makes things so much better with her here!"

"You are making a mistake!" He yells over me.

"A mistake?! Is this about-"

"Anthony fucking Roberts," he sneers. "Do you seriously think that you can make me jealous by dating... Him?!"

"Jealous?! You think this is about you? Give me a break!"

"I know your plans, Courtney. I know what you're doing."

"No you don't, Chase! You think this whole bloody thing is all about you! When will you get the facts in your head that I am over you?!"

He opens his mouth to speak but I cut him off.

"You still think that I'm after you? It's been two years, Chase - two fucking years and yet you still have the audacity to think that I love you?"

"Courtney, we're just looking out for you..." Celine speaks up.

"Oh yeah?! Since when do you care about me, Celine? In fact, since when have you cared about anyone else but yourself?!"

"He's going make you fall in love with him, then break your heart!"

"I know that!"

"Then why?!"

"Because I can beat him. I can play him."

"Sure, Courtney, sure."

"I will. Just you watch! I promise you, I will not lose!"

"Fine." Celine sighs after a long period of silence and folds her arms.

"Wait, what?" Chase turned to her looking surprised. "You're just gonna give up?"

She ignores Chase and continues. "But don't you dare think about coming to me once he's broken your heart, Courtney."

"Oh trust me. You're the last person I'd want to see. Now get out of my house." I snarl.

Celine glares at me before turning outside, with her head held high and Chase following behind her.
