Her fingers reached out to turn up the volume of the already blaring music. Head bopping and eyes closed Kaira felt content and carefree for once.

Tearing open the packet of pop candy she tilted her head back and let the flavor burst across her tongue. The now empty packet was tossed aside onto the pile of wrappers seated on the passenger seat.

Kaira looked out the window of her stationery car and saw a family of three walk towards their own vehicle. The little boy jumped with joy clutching a box to his chest as he animatedly spoke to his parents.

She turned away and felt a familiar dull ache return to her heart.

Soon the family pulled out of the parking lot leaving her to be the last one present. Kaira turned up the music again to drown out her thoughts. The pattering of rain against her car and the loud music helped calm her mind.

She propped her led up on the seat and started humming to the music. A sudden movement in the rear view mirror caught her eye. Kaira jerked forward to push the lock button of her car but happened to be a second late.

The car door slammed shut as Sen invited himself in. He frowned at the trash on the seat and pushed it out of his way.

"What the fuck is this crap?"

"Get out," Kaira stated, not bothering to spare him a glance.

Sen's face twisted into an incredulous look. She had not shown up to school ever since their last interaction and had not bothered replying to any of his texts or calls. He had finally been able to track her down and after three days of worrying he was now seething with rage.

"Stop being childish and answer me. What the fuck happened?" Giving her a quick once over he could tell that she was not hurt at least not physically.

Kaira looked at him from the corner of her eyes as he turned down the music. He was still dressed in his uniform which was damp from the rain, his bag resting on his lap hinted that he had found her right after school ended instead of going home.

She knew how worried he was, hell if their places were reversed Kaira would be setting hell loose on him. Sighing she dropped the attitude, she was in a sour mood but that did not mean she got to take it out on him.

"Sorry," she muttered quietly, looking out of her window.

Sen's eyes slid over to her, his gaze softening. She sounded on the verge of tears. He slowly laced his fingers with hers. Her hand was cold and he could feel the way it trembled.

"What happened?"

Taking in a deep breath Kaira rested her chin on her palm keeping her eyes fixed on her surroundings. She was grateful for the warmth Sen's hand gave her; she was grateful for having him.

"My mom ended up having to get admitted in the hospital," she began feeling his fingers tense slightly. "She's fine now, they're just gonna keep her for a few more days for observation. I missed school 'cause I wanted to stay with her."

"Why didn't you answer my calls? I was so worried. You could've at least texted me saying you were safe."

Kaira's gaze dropped down to their woven fingers, she had no explanation as to why she ignored him. At the time she did not have the energy to talk to anyone and all she wanted was to be left alone.

"Sorry," she apologized again, this time more genuinely.

Sen squeezed her hand reassuringly.

"It's alright," he paused. "Just please let me know that you're okay next time."

Sen had always been a worrier, though he was not good at expressing himself she knew how deep his love ran for the ones he held close to his heart. Her chest felt a little less heavy after talking to him, briefly she wondered if she would be able to survive without Sen.

"You're staying over at my place for tonight," Sen declared, untangling his fingers and leaning back into his seat.

Raising a brow, Kaira started the car.

"Will your mom be okay with that?"

"Of course," he scoffed. "She loves you more than she does her own children."

"Who wouldn't," Kaira grinned, pulling out of the empty lot. Sen smiled as he noticed her slowly returned back to herself.

Kaira soon pulled up in front of his house and the two made their way to the door while talking about her missed assignments at school.

The door abruptly swung open followed by a dramatic gasp.

"Kai!" A shrill voice squeaked with profound enthusiasm. Lanky arms wrapped itself around Kaira's middle in a vice-like grip. Laughing, Kaira hugged the girl back.

"Where's mom?" Sen asked as he stepped into his home loosening his tie.

Misa released Kaira from her death grip and placed her hands on her hips.

"Mom had another emergency surgery so she will be home late. Also, mom wants you to do the groceries and cook dinner for me tonight," with that the girl skipped away. "Oh and make sure it's tasty."

Sen sighed at the demands of his younger sister, she had always been a handful. Glancing at the clock it read 4:22 pm.

"We'll go to the supermarket at around six okay?" He said, looking at Kaira.

"We?" She questioned a smirk forming on her face. Sen had not yet gotten his driving license in fact he had managed to fail three times already.

Throwing his tie at her, he made a face muttering a 'we' in a pitiful attempt to imitate her voice.

The two made their way up the stairs and into Sen's room. Upon seeing his bed Kaira threw herself on top of it feeling her body mold into the soft mattress. After spending nights on the stiff hospital sofa this was a nice change.

"I'm gonna go take a shower. Don'tdo anything weird," Sen stated walking into his joint bathroom.

Kaira rolled her eyes and settled comfortably into his bed, the familiar smell of the sheets coupled with the smell of rain wafting through his open window soon led her into peaceful sleep.

Sen flipped off the bathroom lights as he towel dried his hair. The warm shower made him lethargic. He noticed the steady rise and fall of Kaira's chest. With droopy lids he looked down at his phone and set an alarm for six pm.

Might as well have a quick nap, he thought to himself as he heaved down onto the other side of his bed and soon dozed off.

The unnerving ringing of his phone caused him to jerk up, realizing it was only his alarm Sen sighed and turned it off.

Rubbing his eyes, Sen looked down at the sleeping figure beside him. Her short ebony hair splayed out over the pillow she rested her head on. She still looked like the rat she was when they first met in third grade.

Walking downstairs into the drawing room he spotted his sister and asked her to wake Kaira up knowing she would be able to do a better job. As he quietly worked on making a small list of groceries he hoped the short ride would be peaceful enough for him to catch up on some more sleep.
