"Fred, Hermione and I both told you the Aging Potion was a bad idea," I said, sitting next to my best friend, Fred Weasley, who was now sporting a gray beard along with his twin brother, George in the Hospital Wing.
"Yeah, yeah, I know, Tay. No need to rub it in," Fred grumbled, looking at Madam Pomfrey, who was tutting at George while trying to get rid of his beard. A few others were sitting in the Wing, too. They had beards as well. I recognized Fawcett, from Ravenclaw. My house, and honestly, the best house.
"Just thought you could use the reminder," I giggled. He rolled his eyes, but the effect was ruined by his smile. He took my hand in his, it made my heart flutter.
"Thank you, for taking me to the Hospital Wing instead of letting me look stupid." He smiled at me again.
"Believe me, I seriously considered it," I laughed. "How much do you want to bet you get a Howler from your mum tomorrow?"
"Ugh, don't remind me!" He threw his head back and groaned.
"One sickle?" I asked.
"You're on." George got up from his cot and rubbed his hand through his now-red locks. Like how they used to look.
"Well, that's my cue, I'll see you at dinner, Freddie." I waved goodbye to Fred who was now being blocked by Madam Pomfrey. I turned to exit the Wing and opened the doors.
"Tay!" Cho exclaimed, "I've been looking for you, I saw George leave and thought you must be with Fred in there." She said, she hooked her arm in mine and we began walking to the Great Hall for dinner.
"How're you, Cho?" I asked, she sighed.
"Honestly, I could be better, Marietta still won't clean up her portion of the dorm room," Cho complained.
"Ugh, still?" I asked as we kept walking. "Okay, I'll use my magical Prefect's powers and get her to do it, okay?" I told her, she breathed a sigh of relief. She squeezed my hand.
"Thank you, Tay." We walked into the Hall and sat at our Table. The best Table. The Ravenclaw Table, where brains are superior.
I grabbed a turkey leg right away, I was so hungry. Taking a bite of the hot meat, I looked around the Great Hall to see who was there, I saw my fellow Ravenclaw Prefect, Anthony Goldstein. He was a year above me, in George and Fred's year. The twins were disappointed that their best friend became a Prefect when they themselves worked hard to be trouble makers. Looking at the Gryffindor table, I saw George and Fred's many siblings. The Weasley's are a family of nine. Seven kids. Seven of them. I saw Prefect Percy, he was so uptight, he got mad at the stone walls because they had cracks in them. What did he expect in an old castle? New marble? Next down the line, was the only girl, Ginny. She was bad-ass. She could take down Fred and George in a heartbeat, I've seen it. They don't cross her. I also saw the youngest boy, Ron. He was a food-lover. Like me, he was mowing on a turkey leg. There are two more boys, but they left Hogwarts already.
"Look, it's the Beauxbatons!" I heard a boy whisper, and sure enough, twelve girls were sashaying down the line to sit at their usual spot. Ravenclaw Table. I hated the Beauxbatons, with their stupidly pretty hair, stupidly pretty faces, and stupidly perfect French accents!
"Ugh, I hate them," I grumbled, pouring myself a glass of Pumpkin Juice.
"I know, you tell me four times a day," She giggled and took a bite of her salad. I looked over to the French girls with loathing. I saw one of the blonde girls making butterflies with her wand. I smirked to myself. Obviously, she didn't know how things were done here. I moved my hair so my Prefect's badge was visible and I stood up and walked to the end of the Table.
"Excuse me?" I asked the blonde girl making the butterflies.
"Yes?" She asked me in her perfect accent.
"Hi, my name is Taylor, I'm a Ravenclaw Prefect. I just wanted you to know that magic isn't allowed in the Great Hall while everyone is eating their meals." I said politely.
"What eez ze 'arm? Zey are only Butterflies, after all." She said, smiling at me.
"What's your name? Fleur Delacour, right?" I asked her, she nodded. "I'm sorry, that's just how things work at Hogwarts." I sighed.
"At Beauxbatons," Fleur began, losing her smile, "Magic eez allowed everywhere." She scowled.
"Well, I'm afraid you're at Hogwarts now, not Beauxbatons." I dropped my smile as well. "Stop with the butterflies, please." I turned on my heel and walked away, feeling good about what I'd just done. Sure, she probably hates me now, but it was worth it. I got to tell a Beauxbaton 'no'.
I sat down at my spot again and noticed Fred was back, no longer looking like Dumbledore, but like his normal self once again. I smiled and waved at him. He winked.
I sighed and took the last bite of my turkey leg before I saw the rest of dinner had been magically replaced by dessert. I smiled and took a piece of apple pie off its holder. I looked back at Fred, who was laughing along with George at something Lee Jordan had said to them. As much as I hate the Beauxbatons and having them at our table, I would much rather have them sit here than at the Gryffindor table. Because one girl is going to end up next to Fred.
One girl is going to like Fred.
One girl is going to be liked by Fred.
One girl is going to go out with Fred.
One girl is going to be happy with Fred and I can't say a thing about it because I would then have to tell Fred I've had a crush on him since forever, and that is a best friend killer. If one friend confesses feelings, it ends the friendship. It's an unspoken law.
And I do not want to lose his friendship, if I'm being honest, it's the only thing keeping me sane. I push my pie away and turn to Cho.
"Hey, I don't feel too good, I'm going to go lie down. Will you tell me the results for the Tournament?" I asked her, she quickly swallowed her bite of pudding.
"Of course, feel better." She said sympathetically. I gave her a small smile and left the Hall, I turned to go to the West Tower, or, Ravenclaw Tower to those who live there. I walked up the spiral staircase that led to a deep, rich blue door with a brass eagle knocker. I banged it on the door and was greeted by a riddle.
"Who are the three that fall asleep in Paris, and wake up in Amsterdam?" The door asked me. I furrowed my brow.
"Can I have a hint?" I asked.
"Flags," Was all the door said.
Flags... flags... Oh!
"Red, White, and Blue!" I said to the brass knocker. The door swung open to reveal a blue, empty common room, with the most breathtaking view of the Black Lake, mountains, the Herbology Greenhouses, and the Quidditch Pitch. I felt a twinge of sadness when I saw the last one. There would be no Quidditch this year, thanks to the Triwizard Tournament. I sighed and walked up the stairs to the girls' dorms. I opened the door to mine, which I shared with Cho, Natalia, and Olivia, who were my best friends. Olivia was also siblings with Oliver Wood, the Gryffindor Quidditch Captian. The fifth girl that shared the dorm was Marietta Edgecombe, a curly-haired arse-hole who only cared about herself. Without even getting out of my robes, I fell onto my bed and fell into a deep slumber.
