The past
The wind blew through Kajsa's hair as she rode Iduna down the rainbow bridge. The ride seemed slow in comparison to others she'd taken to see her father. Anxious accompanied her as she thought about how to tell Heimdall of her relationship with Loki.
A few days had passed since he proposed. After much practice and thought, Kajsa realized she could not accurately prepare her confession. Not when she didn't know how her father would react.
She was expecting anger, but the other part of her hoped he would understand and maybe even find it in his heart to bless their engagement.
Induna came to a halt at her command. Having seen her coming, Heimdall stood tall outside the Bifröst. His armor and headdress shined brightly in the sun.
Kajsa unmounted her horse, her eyes locking with the golden ring on her finger. Gulping, she watched it disappear, making it, so she and Loki were the only ones who knew it was there.
"Daughter!" Heimdall greeted her with his booming voice.
"Father," Kajsa turns around with a smile. She approaches him, "you look well."
"As do you," he noticed there was something different about her. "What brings you by?"
"Well, father," Kajsa clears her throat. "There is something important that I wanted to speak to you about."
"It's about a boy, isn't it?" he squinted.
"Yes, actually, I -"
"Is it Thor?"
"Thor?" Kajsa scoffed, "oh, god no. Thor of all people? He's like a big brother. I don't see him that way."
"Well, then who is it?"
"I'll get to that," she cautioned him to wait. "First, I want you to know that I am all grown up now. I am capable of making my own decisions, and right now, I think I am in a time in my life where I am ready to settle down and be a wife."
"I agree."
"I know how you are about boys and me, but . . ." Kajsa pauses, arching an eyebrow. "You agree? With me?"
"Well, of course. Every father hopes that their daughter finds an integral, wise man to protect and take care of her."
"Right, of course," Kajsa nods though she was a bit confused.
"Did I say something wrong?"
"No, I just wasn't expecting you to be so supportive. Last time I was interested in a boy, you forbid me from seeing him."
"Well, that was different."
"How so? Because it was Loki?" she crossed her arms over her chest, tight-lipped.
"Now, Kajsa, let's not bring up the past. As you said, you're grown up now. You've learned your lesson and -"
"I learned my lesson?" she repeated with a scoff. "And what was the lesson?"
"That what you felt for Loki was nothing but a crush. He wasn't good for you then, and he isn't now."
"I -" Kajsa was going to defend Loki but stopped herself. She stared deeply into her father's eyes, realizing that he would never accept the man that she loved. There was nothing she could do or say ever to change his mind.
As much as it broke her heart, she just wasn't ready to let go of her relationship with her father. They were already estranged, the Loki situation having made them distant. Kajsa didn't want to make it any worse.
