Chapter 32
Logan and I were queuing up for popcorn when Mark appeared out of nowhere. He asked if he could join us. Logan had looked like he was ready to sock his best friend. I wanted to laugh, knowing that Logan wanted some time alone with me. If I was honest, I wanted to be alone with him too. Still, Mark was very hard to ignore or refuse.
“Here’s our seats,” Mark stated, sliding in.
Logan followed after with me at the end. Mark held the popcorn, monopolizing it. Logan and I settled with the drinks. Halfway through the movie, I felt my phone vibrate. Glancing at Logan, I realised his eyes were glued to the screen, just like Mark’s. I wanted to laugh at how adorable they looked with the same expressions on their faces.
I turned my attention to my phone. It was a text from Kayla. Apparently, Dave had come over to see me. When she had told him that I was out on a date with Logan, he did not look too happy. She wanted to know why I didn’t tell him. I groaned inwardly. I knew Logan and Dave were not that fond of each other, and yes, I had to tell Dave about Logan some time soon. But, I would rather have Dave found out from me instead of Kayla.
“Something the matter?” Logan whispered to me, seeing my distressed face.
“Just Kayla,” I murmured back.
“What’s wrong?” Mark inquired, obviously eavesdropping.
“Nothing, guys,” I whispered back fiercely.
They were silent after that. I could not concentrate on the movie, trying to decide from a scale of one to ten, how mad Dave would be at me. Logan sensed this tension and reached out to hold my hand. Staring at it, I felt some comfort. I leaned against him, letting his arm wrap around my shoulders. I thought I heard a sigh from Mark but that could have been my imagination.
After the movie, the three of us went back to my apartment. And, lo and behold, sitting there on my couch was none other than my dear asshole of a best friend. Dave’s face was like thunder the moment he saw me and Logan holding hands. I must have had the same expression when I saw him there too. Kayla looked at me sheepishly. She must have tried getting him out of the house but was not successful. Mark was protective, ready to defend his best friend. So, that left with Logan, who, surprisingly, was the calmest and most civil.
“Hello, Dave,” Logan greeted, smiling.
“Hello,” Dave muttered, eyes trained on our intertwined hands.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, forcing myself to sound carefree.
Dave stood up, shrugging although his eyes still flashed. “Just dropped by to see you. Imagine my disappointment when I found out you were out.”
“I told you I had a date,” I reminded him.
“You said plans,” he hissed, holding my gaze with his burning ones. “You didn’t tell me it’s with him.”
“It shouldn’t matter to you who it’s with,” I spat at him.
“Who would like tea?” Kayla interjected.
Mark went to her. “I would have some.”
I groaned and turned to Logan who looked apologetically at me. “Logan, would you give us a minute?”
Logan, kind and understanding as he is, nodded. I walked out of the apartment, shutting the door the moment Dave was out as well. I turned my furious eyes on him, seeing the anger reflected in his.
“Logan? Seriously?” he sneered. “Couldn’t find someone better?”
“You have no right to say that,” I hissed, trying my best to keep my volume down.
