You woke up abruptly to the sound of your alarm going off. It was 9 am. Luckily for you, you didn't have any classes that day until ten so you managed to sneak in some more sleep. But even still you felt exhausted from the day before, and you had woken up multiple times in the middle of the night.
You went through with your usual daily routine of getting dressed, eating breakfast, and then brushing your teeth before you walked out the door. You didn't feel like putting any makeup on as you knew you'd be rubbing your eyes from tiredness that day.
A smile made its way on to your face as you saw the bus was already coming down the road to your apartments stop. You entered the bus and took the same seat you had the day before. Yesterdays events still didn't quite sink in yet. It felt like you were going to another average day at class and Abby would be there.
The doors closed as two other students from your apartment got onto the bus. They sat closer towards the front and didn't pay any mind to you. You couldn't help but overhear the conversation they were having. The soccer match that was supposed to take place that night had been canceled, and likely they would cancel the entire season as well if they couldn't catch the killer.
'Right.' You thought to yourself, 'The killer could even be one of the students themselves.' The thought gave you goosebumps that even one of these students could be them. The thought of your encounter yesterday at the school's bus stop made you uneasy, but you just had to blow it off. It was just a senior playing pranks on the younger classes and Abby's death happened to be a terrible coincidence. The man probably wasn't even worth noting to the authorities.
----
Your first class was a simple English and Literature course. It had gone by fairly quickly for you as you had a strong suit in that area. You had decided to stay on campus for lunch as you didn't see the point in going home when you had another class right after.
"Y/N!" A voice called out behind you.
'Ugh him again.' You internally rolled your eyes as the boy came running up to your side.
"Hey, hey what's up! Are you going to the lunch hall?" He asked cheerfully.
"Yeah I am."
"Great. I hope you don't mind me barging in and sitting with you. Things have been feeling a little off since last night and I could really use some company."
'Actually I do mind,' you couldn't help but think, 'Things have been off for me too and the last thing I want is to try and have a normal conversation.'
"Sounds good." You replied back to him with a forced smile.
Luckily he didn't say anything else on the walk there and had just given you quiet company. Which you really didn't mind too much at the moment. The dining commons were crowded and loud. Different stations were serving different foods and you weren't quite sure what you wanted yet.
"I'm going to get in line for pasta, since we'll be having pizza later." Bryan said and you could've sworn he winked at you.
"Actually that sounds good." You decided. You followed him into the line which wasn't too terribly long. You got your meals and sat down in the far corner of the room. A few girls and even a guy or two gave both you and Bryan looks of either jealousy or curiosity.
You ate in silence for the most part. You had decided to stick with basic chicken and Alfredo pasta. It was actually pretty good considering it was school food.
"So uhh," Bryan broke the silence, "What are your thoughts about last night? I mean, of course it was terrible!" He stammered, "But you used to be her roommate and were pretty close to her. I'd imagine it's pretty hard for you to be going through this right now."
You decided it would be easiest just to open up about it. Maybe it'd make you get some of the irrational and paranoid thinking out of you head. "Actually it's not all that hard. I mean in terms of losing her. It just doesn't quite feel real yet, if that makes any sense?"
"Yeah it does. I lost my little brother to suicide and it still doesn't quite feel real yet either. I just feel like I'm away at college and he'll be waiting for me when I'm home." Bryan gave you a sad smile and you let your heart feel pity for him. "But umm... do you not feel scared or nervous at all?" He was trying to change the subject.
"Actually now that you mention it I do. But the weird thing was I had this encounter at the bus stop last night. But I'm sure it was just a senior playing a prank." Bryan raised an eyebrow at you as if he was asking you to continue on. "After our talk last night I missed the first bus. When I got to the stop there was only one student there. Although I'm not quite sure if he was a student actually. He didn't have a bag or anything but I suppose he could have left it somewhere. Anyways," You shook your head and stared at your empty plate, "he was really strange. He never made eye contact with me but it was like he could see everything i was doing. And when I got on the bus he just sat there waiting. He never got on. He never even looked at me until he had almost faded into the distance."
"Strange." Bryan looked around the room as if he were expecting the culprit to announce himself, "It could've been one of the seniors, yeah. But think about it we're right outside of the city. It could just have easily been a homeless guys sleeping on the bench. He probably came up to the school to see if he could get any food from the students. I wouldn't think too much on it."
His words soothed you a bit. You hadn't even thought about it being a homeless person and now you almost felt stupid for thinking something like that.
"Yeah, you're probably right. Sorry about that." You went back to being your quiet self feeling rather embarrassed.
"Don't sweat it." He sent you a comforting smile, "I didn't want to call you about it last night and make it too abrupt. But we're expected to be at an interview tomorrow after school with Jed Olsen along with a few other students. He usually doesn't work outside of the office, but he volunteered to come here to make it easier for us."
"Oh, alright." You wondered why he had been told directly and you hadn't, but you didn't really want to talk more about the subject.
"Let's get going to the next class." He had picked up on your change of mood and you were grateful he changed the subject.
He walked you to your next class and you felt anxious about all the looks you were getting. You felt like Bella from Twilight showing up with your new mysterious boyfriend. Aside from the fact that Bryan only dressed the part and was not mysterious in the least.
------
Your study session with Bryan had gone well for the most part. You had copied down your notes from him, made some small talk, and he explained anything you didn't understand. he had brought pizza like promised and refused your offer to pay him back. Yet the entire time you had an uneasy feeling about the situation. Like something was off, and not only that but you felt like someone was watching you as if you weren't supposed to be there. You decided to brush it off as some other students curious about your 'date' with Bryan.
