You felt much calmer that night already. Especially since you'd be talking to Jed tomorrow and you could get the whole incident out of your mind. You let yourself relax and focus on your studies for tomorrow. There would only be a total of four grades this quarter for your course, meaning this test could be the difference of you ended up with an A or a C.

Just as you were finally in the zone with your work you heard the phone ring.

'Odd. Who would be calling the house phone instead of my cell?' You stood up from your spot and lazily dragged your feet over to the phone.

"Hello?" For a moment there was only silence on the other end. You contemplated on just setting the phone back down.

"Y/N!" A familiar voice rang out. "Hi sweety it's been so long since I've spoken with you. How are you?"

"Mom?" You were rather shocked to hear her on the other end of the phone. Ever since you and her had your falling out she never really spoke to you. It wasn't your fault she cheated and you had snitched on her to your dad. You were doing what you thought was best but she saw it as a betrayal to her. When she refused to admit she was wrong it had pushed you farther away and now you were at a college about two hours from home. Your mother had not been happy that you didn't go to the college in your hometown.

"Yes who else would be calling you at this hour? I hope you weren't expecting any boys to be calling." She laughed at herself and you rolled your eyes.

"No mom. Even if I were I don't think any boy would be calling me from the house-phone. Speaking of that why didn't you just call my cell?"

"Well, you see," she started and you could tell she was embarrassed, "I got a new phone." She said slowly as if she were trying to choose her words carefully. You had a feeling though that she had deleted your contact but had managed to find your house number in a phone book or online.

"Anyways y/n. I was actually calling to check if you were alright. I wanted to call last night but I had just been in a busy situation at the moment. I thought I'd call tomorrow night instead anyways to give you some time to process things. I know you were roommates with that girl so this must all be so shocking and stressful for you to handle right now."

  "Actually not really. I'm fine."

"Why so curt with me? I called up here just to check on you when I didn't have to. You don't have to be so obnoxiously rude about it."

You almost couldn't believe what she was saying, "Isn't that what mothers are supposed to do? Check up with their children when stuff like this happens. Or to be more accurate shouldn't they check up with their kids on a regular basis and not when they need something. Because I'd be damned if the one time you reach out to me since your last birthday is because you were concerned about me!"

There was silence on the other end of the phone. Maybe you had gone a bit overboard with the yelling. After all, she could've finally had a change of heart.

The silence dragged on for about thirty more seconds, "Do you think me and Roger could come up and stay with you next week?" She had completed ignored everything you just said to her, "You know hotel rooms are so expensive now in days and it would be good to spend some time together. Neither Roger nor I have seen you since you went off to college last year."

"So you're just planning a surprise visit for no other reason then to come see me?" You laced your words with sarcasm but she didn't seem to pick up on it.

"Well you know Roger loves his cars, and there does happen to be that car show in Day-River that he wants to go to. We thought it'd be a nice excuse to visit."
