Chapter 53. What if.......? Part 2

Alexei's P.O.V

Cash, James, and I arrived in France at six-thirty P.M. I called Zachariel when I reached my Paris residence. Charlotte had already asked the maids to get the house ready to accommodate us all. I missed Zachariel and the kids so much that it hurt. My heart welled up when I heard Zachariel's voice. I didn't know if I could survive the month without my lover and my children. It was the first time that I had experienced such strong emotions. I wanted to return home as soon as possible. I scheduled as many meetings for the first few weeks of my stay as I could.

Our first week in Paris flew by in a flash. I had trouble sleeping since I had arrived in France. I had never had this problem before. I did my best not to worry too much about my family, but it was hard. I missed sleeping next to Zachariel as well. Zachariel was busy too. He had already hired the people he needed to run his company. Zachariel always tried to cheer me up when I called him and the kids. It was like he knew what I was going through. I sighed while leaning back in my chair. A French reporter had submitted a request to interview me. I never liked to lay my soul bare. That was one of the reasons why I always avoided giving interviews. I summoned James to my office, then asked him to deny the reporter's request. James nodded, then uttered, "You have just received an invitation from the international youth health organization, sir. You're one of their most influential patrons. The organization wants you to present an award to a boy who gathered money to fund a child hospital wing in Mozambique."

I checked my schedule, then asked James, "When is the event taking place, James?" James immediately answered me with, "This Saturday, sir. You have to be at the Pavillon Cambon Capucines at seven P.M. Cash has already notified me about his absence on that day. He told me that Ulrich is going to be in charge of your safety this weekend." I sighed, then responded to James with, "Ask Ulrich to heighten the security at the venue, James. I don't want people to approach me with business opportunities while I'm at the event." James grabbed his phone, then said before walking out of my office, "I'll call him immediately, sir. Mr. Monet is already here for the meeting. I'll ask my assistant to escort him to your office." It was already six P.M. by the time I had finished all my meetings. I decided to call Zachariel and the kids seeing how it was already nine A.M in Los Angeles.

Zachariel instantly answered his phone. He chuckled, then stated, "We were just talking about you, my dear lover." The kids squealed, "Daddy!" in the background. Zachariel pushed the video call button, then handed the phone to the kids. Genevieve kissed the screen, then uttered, "I have missed you so much, daddy." Dominique grinned, then stated, "Billy put new coy fish in our pond, Daddy. I asked him if I could catch one with my fishing rod, but he said no. You should have seen his reaction when one of the fishes jumped out of the bucket and smacked his feet." I laughed, then responded to Dominique with, "Don't go near the pond without supervision, Dominique. I will take you and your sibling's fishing when I return. I know a place where lots of kids go. You guys can maybe make some friends there." Dominique stumped his feet in excitement. My heart broke when I heard Jacques ask me, "Do you miss us too, daddy?" I took a deep breath, then answered Jacques with, "I can't live without you guys, little Jacques. I think about you guys every day. I want to give you all a big hug. I will come back soon, baby boy. I promise."

Jacques nodded while wiping his tears away. He gave the phone to Zachariel then yelled, "Bye, daddy!" Zachariel placed a kiss on Jacques's head, then asked me, "What are your plans for tonight, Alexei?" I looked at my watch, then replied to Zachariel with, "I'll head home after having dinner with one of my associates. I'm planning to go to bed early tonight. Why?" Zachariel smiled, then stated before cutting off the phone, "Keep your phone close to you, Alexei. I'll contact you in the afternoon. I'll help you sleep tonight." I looked in bewilderment at my phone. I wondered what Zachariel was planning to do. I turned off my computer, then took the elevator to the ground floor. Cash smirked when he saw me coming. He opened the door for me, then uttered, "You won't believe who I ran into just now, Alexei." I frowned, then asked Cash, "What are you talking about, Cash?" Cash chuckled, then answered me with, "I ran into Didier while I was getting the car serviced, Alexei. The motor wasn't running to my liking. So I brought it to an expert." I sighed, then stated, "This is not a sports car, Cash. Leave it how it is."
