‘Just another man down’

Does it seem heroic to die for nothing,

Just for the spite of others,

It is a fall from glory to die in a corner of a muddy field,

Helpless, alone and ‘just another man down’,

Is it bold to die on the back of a tatty wagon,

When you have fought for England,

Does it matter that your burial square,

will be a part of England forever,

Is it brave to die for power,

When you lose everything,

Does it seem like we are champions, winners, the best,

That at the end we have no more to show,

Than a coffin of land,

That will be British forever,

We are not heroes, we never will be,

We are just men who are dying for nothing,

With only freedom to die with,

Dying for nothing
