Elaine was an observant girl.

Always taking notice of small changes to her surroundings. She noticed when the neighbors planted new daisies in their flower beds or when a picture frame was slightly off center. She could connect the dots like no other child you knew, but she didn't think twice about you being around more often.

To her you just wanted to be around her more, and her dad suddenly being more affectionate just meant that he was being a good friend.

A very good friend.

Even now as you sat on the couch with Bucky throwing himself all over you, in an appropriate way of course. As appropriate as he could be considering Elaine was sitting on the floor watching TV. It was a weekend and still you somehow managed to be busy all day. You'd been graciously chosen to help clean out one of the school's storage units. Needless to say, you were exhausted. An entire day filled with sorting through ancient files and totes full of unused office supplies was very taxing on the mind.

You didn't have the energy to get him to take it easy on his affections, and truth be told you were perfectly comfortable letting him be affectionate right then. "M'not happy you're letting them cut in on my time." Bucky said, kissing the top of your head. You sighed snuggling further into him – if that were even possible. Somehow you'd gone from sitting up straight to essentially laying on top of Bucky with your head resting on his chest. "Sorry. I didn't really want to do it anyways, but if I did it this weekend I wouldn't have to do it on one of our longer weekends." You explained, your words dissolving into a yawn.

Bucky slipped his hands under your shirt slightly dragging his fingers down your back. That feeling combined with listening to him talk about everything he and Elaine got into was enough to make you almost fall asleep. Closing your eyes you felt yourself slowly slipping from reality, and not long after you were asleep. Occasionally you would wake up a little, hearing the TV or little Elaine's feet against the hardwood floor passing back and forth.

"Hey, quiet steps bug."

"Oh, okay! I'm sorry daddy."

"It's okay. Sweetheart's sleepy today."

You didn't need to have your eyes open to know she had walked over to the both of you. Reaching out she lightly put her little hand on your face, just enough to barely feel her. "Why is she sleepy?" She asked. Bucky explained in the simplest of terms everything you'd done during the day. While listening she kept her hand on your face occasionally patting your cheek.

You couldn't recall a time in which you felt so loved. Of course there was family love, and friend love - but this was so different. It was the feeling of being appreciated and cared for by people who had no obligation to do so. Bucky didn't have to care about you and neither did Elaine. They'd both roped you into their world as if it were destiny.
