The small camp was bustling as people moved about doing their parts, some were fishing by the river that ran just north of a giant redwood that loomed over the middle of the camp, others were weaving baskets and getting ready to leave the sight on the east end of camp, and a last group which was a team of five readies themselves to go trade with the neighboring kingdome and sister villages far in the west. Amongst these five was Creed who having just turned the age of fifteen was finally ready for his first venture out of camp with his older brother Rebel, two friends Nomad and Row and lastly the two boys father and head chief Derg, "are we ready then boys?" The chiefs voice boomed as it always had when getting the attention of the youngsters. The four boys stood at the chiefs voice, "yes chief!" Said Creed speaking for all the boys the excitement in his voice made Derg smile,"Then we're off!" With that Derg gave a wave to the gate keepers who began to pull the gates up allowing the troup of five to walk out the sound of the heavy gates slamming was the last thing they heard as they made their way west bound vanishing from the gate keepers sights.
After 4 hours of travel and only having 2 hours left of daylight the troup found a cave off of a highly used trail to settle down. "Rebel since you are the oldest I want you and Row to go hunting find what you can" Derg said before looking at Creed and Nomad, "and I want you two to go and look for edible berries I know you both know what to look for." Creed gave a big sigh to hearing this and a look of displeasure crossed his face, "why do we have to go look for dumb berries that's sooo boring." Derg gave the young boy a stern look of anger "you can make plenty of useful food with berries yes, but other plants can heal open wounds and even help heal broken bones. Not only that but with berries comes meat as plenty of animals love berries, and if you were to pay attention many animals prefer a different berry form another so yes you will be gathering berries and now since you wanted to huff and puff about it gather me some aloe and poppy seeds and we'll see if I should have left you at camp." With this Nomad gave Creed a punch to the arm for the extra work they now had to do and silently the boys headed into the woods Derg's figure disappearing into the mixes of green and brown of the forest.
