A/N: the art is from monovski on Tumblr, (I found it on Pinterest). It is absolutely beautiful. You should go check out more of their work.
Burning buildings. People screaming. Acid. Dragons roaring. Dragons running. Humans running and humans hiding.
It was all chaos and behind it all was a tall man with sharp features and white hair. At his side was a black and red Deathgripper, acid dripping from its mouth and blood staining its long white teeth.
"Dad, why are you doing this!?" A girl screamed.
"This is what I have to do to get in control dear. It may take many lives, but those lives are necessary," the man said in a calm tone. "Join me, and I will give you anything you want."
"I will never join you," the girl said while tears streamed down her cheeks. "This is madness! Killing all of these dragons and humans, just to get to the specific ones you want!" The girl screamed.
The man was silent for a while, just watching. Then he gave a laugh that had no humor in it whatsoever it was just cold and lifeless. "You could have stopped all of this had you just given me what I wanted. All of these lives, gone, because you wouldn't sacrifice one dragon."
None of them said anything, they just stared at each other while the guilt clawed at the girl.
Suddenly a mighty roar erupted from the skies. Both of them looked up to see a white figure flying towards them.
"Seems like I don't have to do all the work after all," the man said. He lifted his crossbow and shot an arrow.
The arrow hit.
The dragon crashed into the ground before them.
The girl immediately went to check on it. It wasn't dead, just asleep. She let out a relieved sigh and caressed its head.
There was suddenly a piercing pain in her neck. She looked up to see the man with white hair standing above her. She tried to see what he was holding, but she could only catch a glimpse of purple before she felt herself lose control.
She looked up and saw a woman running for them. She had pure fear in her eyes. "Kill her." She heard from beside her. She wanted to stop, to not stand up. But her body had a different mind in charge. She screamed, she wanted to get out. But no one heard.
She felt herself walking towards the woman who was on her knees. She was crying and pleading for her to stop.
In one moment she was full of life. In the other, it was gone like a light.
Frida woke up with a gasp and sat up straight. She could feel the cold sweat on her forehead and back. It was cold and clammy and the night air did not make it better.
A groan sounded from beside her and she turned to see Heather waking up. "What?" She asked openly while she sat up and rubbed her eyes.
Frida desperately tried to calm her breathing and rapidly beating heart. But Heather had already noticed the state she was in. "Frida?" She asked as she carefully touched her arm.
Frida winced at the touch but didn't move. "It was just a nightmare, I am ok," she said, a little too quickly.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Heather asked. Frida shook her head.
"Let's just get ready," she said and tried to stand up. After a few failed attempts she saw a hand in front of her. She reluctantly took it and hoisted herself up.
After both of them were in their gear and the dragons were saddled, they were off to the ship's location.
Frida couldn't seem to shake the horrible dream out of her head. And the reason being that it wasn't a dream, but a memory. A horrible memory she had tried to suppress these past years. But alas, it came back, and at the worst possible time.
