[AN: Hi, everyone! This rewrite has been in the works for a hot minute, and I'm excited to bring the story back to you all! If you're reading this for the first time and haven't read the original, great! Hi! Hello! Bring snacks, this is going to be a doozy! If you have read the original, then welcome back! Lots of things are different between this and the original, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

If you've never read the original and want to get ahead in the story, go poke your nose in the original. Be aware, this one is going to have more content compared to the chapters that are already out in the original, but the plot beats will be about the same. There's also going to be more chapters for the in-between from where I ended the last fic, so keep that in mind as well!

This story is an OC story written primarily in the 2nd person POV. Please be aware of that when you set foot into this story! The whole fic is being crossposted to Archive Of Our Own, so if you see it there then no worries! It's just me :D

Now, on to the fic! ]

Today was the day.

Today was the day YGGDRASIL ended, and while you needed to eat you could not be late. Momonga had put far too much time into planning the send-off to miss it.

You scarf down your dinner—rice and some veggies, with a fried egg on top—while fending off your cats. Refrigerator, in her infinite wisdom, managed to snag some egg right as you finished; Meatball yowled after her, trying to sneak a portion of her treat as you stood, cleaning up from your meal. You glance at the clock as you rinse off your plate.

11:00pm.

You were late.

You sped through cleanup, dishes forgotten in favor of speeding to your setup. You slid into the seat, headset over your eyes and neural network plugged in before you had even finished typing the password. The game loaded in, and—

"—at the end of tonight. Goodnight." You swore, guilt clawing at your throat; served you right for taking the time to actually cook a meal rather than get take-out. Still, you were here, and that's what mattered.

"Did I miss anyone else? Or just HeroHero?" You sat next to your friend, shooting s questioning glance towards the 39 unfilled seats at the table.

"... You missed Peronochino. He wasn't here for long, though..." Momonga sighed softly as he trailed off, resting his head in his hands after sending a sad face emoji. It stung; you two had kept Nazarick around for yourselves and the others, and yet no-one else had bothered coming back. Hell, Bukubukuchagama had promised she'd stop by.

Bur real life must have gotten in the way once again.

"That... God, that blows." You placed a soothing paw on Momonga's shoulder, sending him a concerned emoji face followed by a sad one. "But at least we're here. We can give this place the send-off it deserves. Besides, we'll meet up IRL after this, drinks on me."

That seemed to perk him up a bit if the smiley face you got back was anything to go by. You'd see to it that it happened. You two only lived an hour or two apart as far as you were aware. Hell, you'd buy a plane ticket for it if you needed to. Momonga's your friend, and you weren't going to lose him to the whims of the devs ending your favorite game.

"You know, being guild master really did suit you."

"HeroHero said the same thing."

"Great minds think alike." You send a smiley face emoji, standing and stretching even though the action served no purpose. "You really did a great job, though. Next DMMO-RPG we play, I'd like to be in a guild with you again. There's a new fantasy world one that's allegedly YGGDRASIL version 2 if you want to try it?"
