Last night went better than I expected. I was glad to clear the air with Eric. He took the breakup better than I expected. It gave me hope for our future since he took my criticisms. As each other mates, we were bound to get back together eventually. For now, I was going to enjoy whatever time I had with Alcide.

He was a good man but at times could be too headstrong. But, he had a lot on his mind lately. The construction business was taking a small hit. The past vamp attacks had restricted work hours to only the daylight. Burrell's new lockdowns weren't helping matters.

The work stress wasn't too bad. He was built to weather the storm. I was more worried about his pack master duties. Sudden & absolute authority rarely went well in history. I held out hope that his better nature would keep his ego down. If not, I & his dad would be more than happy to set him straight.

As for the world, it was slowly falling into chaos. Vampire hate crimes were going up around the world. Lousiana seemed to be the worst thanks to the Governor's sanction. All US covens were slowly being evacuated but Louisiana was being emptied like Saigon. The national guard was on route to help protect the evacuation routes.

On top of that chaos, Luna was a viral sensation. The news stations were talking about her in between the vampire raids. It was putting more of a spotlight on occults which was terrifying. We didn't need more reasons to be secretive & paranoid. Luna & Emma were hiding until things died down. Sam was the only one who knew their location. He came back to avoid suspicion but he missed them so much.

I got woken in the middle with an emergency call. I should've known that a peaceful night was too good. Alcide helped me pack a case despite his grogginess. I made sure to thank him while handling the weapons. He wasn't thrilled about me leaving. I tried to ease his concern as I shrugged it off as another day in the office. But, we both knew the governor's all-out vamp war was ushering in a new era.

I hated having to leave them all alone. Alcide was trying to get his feet as the new packmaster. Recent events were straining his ability to calm the pack. For now, he was keeping the paranoia down as they convening like usual. Rikki was capable of backing his decisions. Besides, Martha & his dad weren't afraid to jump in. Martha's bow was pretty damn intimidating & she knew how to use it well.

Sookie was even more of a pain. Warlow could be anywhere for all we knew. With me gone for who knows, she was in the most vulnerable state. Alcide promised to help look after her. But, he had his own responsibilities which were more important. I made a quick phone call to arrange some type of security. They'd arrive in a few days. I reinforced my undead protection wards & charms in the meantime. After a few hours, the place was bugged to psychically link me to an unwanted vampire.

The charms were the last thing I could do before pickup. A small convoy from Baton Rouge was sent to me. Their accents still sounded so strange to me. They packed my bags as I said my goodbyes.

"Promise me, you'll both be alive when I come back?" I sighed before glaring at Sook

"Especially you, Miss Danger Magnet." I rolled my eyes

"Yeesh, I swear to keep away from obvious red flags. I'm living a normal safe life. I'm done with the craziness." She swore

"Uuuh huh." I doubted causing her to playfully jostle me

"Sook, your track records shite." I reminded

"Don't worry, darling. I'll help steer her clear." Alcide soothed me as he grabbed my hands
