Burnsley was a small city located in maryland. In this city, on a small street, was a small house. This house had a pointy, red roof, white walls and not much of a front yard. If you walk past the house, you will be able to see the silhouette of a middle aged woman hustling around, getting ready for the day at work.
She had brown-blonde hair and green eyes, and was making breakfast in the kitchen and talking on the phone at the same time.
'hello? Yes, Mrs. Gordon, I will be there soon. Ok, sure. I will come a bit early. By the way, I wanted to ask you if you could come to our house tomorrow. It's the girls' birthday, see, and I would really appreciate it if you would join us. Yes, I'll work a bit more today, then. Thank you so much, Mrs. Gordon!'
she hung up and smiled in relief. She would plan a surprise for the girls! She picked up her phone and made a quick call.
'Ellie! Vicky! Wake up! Time for school!' she called in a sing-song voice.
After about 15 minutes, a girl with emerald green eyes and neck length hair so dark brown that it almost looked black came down the stairs.
'Good morning, mom!' she wished her mother.
'Good morning, Ellie. Is your sister awake yet?' her mother replied.
'I don't think so, mom. You know what a sleepyhead Vicky is.' Ellie chuckled.
Her mother, Mrs. Barfield, sighed and said, 'go wake her up, Ellie. Otherwise, you'll miss your bus.'
Ellie got up reluctantly and went upstairs to Vicky's bedroom. The bedroom was a small one. The room had bright blue walls, a pink bed and a yellow desk. It had a lot of windows, but the curtains were drawn all the time. If the room was neat, it would be a pretty and kiddish room. But dirty clothes, pencils, scraps of paper, and half eaten sandwiches were strewn across the floor. There were barely any spaces without any mess, so one had to hop across the room.
Ellie did the same and went up to the bed. On the bed, she could see a hump and could hear snoring.
'Vicky! Wake up! Time for school!' she said, shaking her twin sister up.
Vicky just continued sleeping. Ellie yanked the sheets back and Vicky suddenly sat up. She looked just like her sister, with the same emerald green eyes and dark brown hair, just that her hair was shoulder length and not neck length.
'Ellie! What happened? Why did you wake me up so fast? We just slept 15 minutes ago!' she whined.
Ellie shook her head, exasperated. 'FYI, Vicky, you've been sleeping for ten hours. And get up now; it's time for school.' She pulled Vicky up and dragged her to the bathroom.
In ten minutes, with a lot of shouting, arguing and grumbling, Vicky was ready. Together, they went to the kitchen and sat on the table. There were two bowls of cereal already poured and they quickly gobbled it up.
While they were eating, Mrs. Barfield told them, 'girls, I have good news! Mrs. Gordon gave me the evening off tomorrow. She'll also join us in a small birthday evening tomorrow.'
Ellie and Vicky nodded. Mrs. Gordon was the owner of Books Of Wonder, a small bookshop down the lane. She was a family friend, and Mrs. Barfield worked as an assistant there.
They could hear the bus coming and they ran outside, picking up their bags on the way. They boarded the bus and took a seat together in the front.
After the bus started moving and they waved goodbye to their mother, Ellie said, 'I wonder what we'll learn today. Mrs. Finns said we'd start a new chapter in history. I wonder what? What do you think, Vicky? What could the chapter be? Vicky?'
