Memories would be the root of all extinction. The horrible haunting of memories would trace you down to your skull , and slowly kill you. Why did memories hurt so much to have ? It was because they only reminded you of the things you didn't have. Emily Routledge hated the thought of memories ; they only caused pain. She wished she could forget everything that had happened in her life - she'd rather start as a new person.
The scary thing about living was that you didn't know what was coming next. One day you could be living , the next you could be dead. It was too unpredictable ; you could never time life. Emily always wished to have her child mind back. When she was younger , she didn't feel like how she did now - she didn't analyze every little detail like how she did now.
The thing about a broken clock is that it either stops , or repeats itself. But a broken clock is always right twice a day ; there were some things that Emily would always be right about. Actually , Emily was right about a lot of different things - nobody seemed to ever wanna listen , so it ended in madness.
Apparently she was unreliable. Maybe they all just thought she was a control freak . . . she was the Outer Bank's personal control freak.
Control freak was her nickname in OBX ; she wasn't known as a 'kook princess' or any other stereotypical nicknames for a kook , she was known as a fucking control freak ( which was sort of stereotypical as well. ) A control freak is described as a person who 'indicates a powerful need to control people or circumstances in everyday matters' , but what was wrong with that? Emily was only trying to take charge of the life others were trying to take from her.
Topper was actually the one who came up with the nickname. Emily had started to ask people to not call her Emmy ; the name reminded her too much of her dad , and there was no point in using a name that would remind her of pain. Topper had make a joke - calling her a control freak. What was wrong with trying to control her own name? Was it not hers to change?
