Hayden sighed as he stared at the ceiling of his dark and quiet bedroom.

It was late into the night. The sun had long set, and much of the city was fast asleep—curled up in their warm beds and drifting far away.

   Yet, Hayden remained utterly unphased.

He laid in bed for what felt like hours trying to fall asleep. But it was as though he couldn't get his brain to shut off long enough.

When it was apparent he wouldn't be getting tired anytime soon, Hayden gave a heavy sigh once again. He peeled off his covers, slid his legs over the edge of his bed, and stood.

Hayden left the seclusion of his room and crossed the hall. He knocked on the door, and a single voice echoed from the other end, "Go away!"

   The demand was clear.

The ghost of a grin flashed across Hayden's lips at this.

   Poppy...

   He smirked.

Hayden's sister was never one for kindness. Ever since they were kids, she was always the more cold one. To everyone else, it was as though the concept was foreign to her. It was only ever with Hayden, and Hayden alone, that she showed her other half.

   Her fragile and damaged half.

The part of her that was so small and afraid, it cowered in the face of the unknown.

Hayden reached for the doorknob and entered.

   Poppy's room was dimly lit.

Music played gently on her portable speaker.

Her made bed was completely untouched. The furniture and decor choice—clean and cold, giving off an unwelcoming vibe to anyone who entered.

   It makes sense.

She hardly spends time here anyway.

Poppy sat at her windowsill with a pair of binoculars in hand as she stared into the night.

When she heard the sound of someone still walking in even though she'd clearly yelled otherwise, she turned with irritation clear on her face. "I said go—!" She began to shout, only to find Hayden standing in her room. "Oh!" Her tone changed to a more accepting one. "It's just you."

Hayden smirked and walked over to her untouched bed. "Are you stalking our neighbors?" He asked as he plopped down. "Already?"

Poppy turned back to her binoculars with a grin that her brother could not see. "I'm not stalking. I'm just getting to know the environment, that's all," she explained and seemed to focus on something for a long moment.
