Crossing Earlier Than Expected

Normally there was nothing to fear about a shadow. When a shadow could appear independent of its body and even do the impossible for the unphysical by grabbing the physical, there was plenty to fear.

Jumping into the river, Henry and Katharine proceeded to swim to the other side. They had no idea if the shadow could move through water, but they were not taking chances that it could.

As they crossed the river, Katharine paused and stared out to the other shore. When Henry noticed he paused as well and looked out to the other shore. Miao was standing on the other shore waving her arms. What was she doing? She was supposed to be waiting with their things, making sure no one tried to steal the digital phone, why was she here waving her arms about like a lunatic?

"What did she just say?" Katharine asked in alarm.

Henry had not even been paying attention to the fact that Miao was calling out to them. He'd been more focused on the fact that she was not with their belongings.

"The clay swimmer has been moving this way!"

Well, that wasn't good.

Both of the adolescent redheads looked to their right and in the distance, they could see the shape of the Peloneustes in the river, coming towards them. It stood to reason that an osprey would not have been a large enough meal.

This was no time for banter. No saying "Time to swim faster" followed by a reply of "Don't need to tell me twice". Henry and Katharine just returned swimming, trying to go faster than they already had. Death on flippers was on the way and they had to get to the shore!
